An F23 BMW 2 Series Convertible prototype was spotted in Germany. In early 2015, the 2 Series Convertible will join the coupe and Active Tourer to complete the 2 Series family, now comprised of both rear-wheel and front-wheel drive vehicles.
Just like its predecessor, the 1 Series Cabriolet, the new F23 open-top will feature a fabric roof.
The F23 BMW 2 Series cabrio is built exactly like the previously offered 1 Series Convertible at the Leipzig plant, and it is designed atop the coupe platform. The design cues of the cabriolet are similar to the coupe so no major surprises are expected.
Engine lineup will be taken over from its fixed roof sibling so we expect to see a 228i Cabriolet, 220i and 220d, at least for the launch. BMW will also unveil the M235i Convertible which just like the M235i Coupe will be powered by the 3.0 liter inline-six turbocharged engine producing 322 hp and 332 lf-ft of torque. The M235i Convertible should be capable of 0-60 in 4.8 seconds when optioned with the 8-speed sport automatic.
Its official world premiere will take place at the 2014 Paris Motor Show.
The most important competitor is the Audi A3 convertible, starting at 30,500 euros in Europe. With a base price of 48,500 euros, the S3 Cabrio already gives an idea for the expected price of the BMW M235i convertible.
