The upcoming 2016 BMW 2 Series Active Tourer with seven seats was spied during a testing session at Nurburgring.
The first front-wheel drive BMW made its debut in March at the 2014 Geneva Motor Show and will go on sale this summer in Europe and next year in the United States.
BMW 2 Series Active Tourer is the first of its bunch and the design combines the comfort and functionality of space with the typical dynamic BMW lines.
Measuring just 4,342 millimeters long (170.9 inches), 1,800 millimeters (70.8 inches) wide and 1,555 millimeters (61.2 inches) in height, the BMW 2 Series Active Tourer offers similar inside space as larger X vehicles.
BMW will offer the 2 Series Active Tourer with a front-wheel drive and all-wheel drive configuration. It will also be offered with a five or seven seater configuration.
The new BMW 2 Series Active Tourer is being launched with a choice of three powerful, light and fuel-efficient three and four-cylinder drive units that form part of a new generation of engines. They are installed transversely and boast a compact design along with BMW TwinPower Turbo technology, at the same time as complying with the EU6 emissions standard.
A BMW 2 Series Active Tourer Hybrid was also spotted in France near the BMW testing facility in Miramas.
While not confirmed, we expect the U.S. market to see the BMW 2 Series Active Tourer in 2015.
