BMWBLOG’s original series “Photo Comparisons” returns today with a new side-by-side comparison. The new 2015 BMW X6 is pitted against the future Mercedes-Benz ML-Coupe.

The new F16 BMW X6 still doesn’t have a real competitor at its market launch, but only a few months later, Mercedes will unleash their ML-Coupe, the first off-roader with similar coupe-like features and aiming at the same customer.

While in the case of the X6, the F15 X5 serves as the base model, Mercedes-Benz uses their ML as a technical platform for M-Class Coupe. The current generation of M-Class has been on the market since 2011 and is built at the U.S. plant in Tuscaloosa, where also Mercedes MLC Coupe could run off the assembly line.

The grille and headlights are very GLA with a more dynamic. The many folds and creases in the hood and doors also give the concept a sportier look inspired by the GLA again. Mercedes says the rear end was inspired by the S-Class Coupe.

The slopping curve of the roof is actually quite reminiscent of the X6, with a combination of modern and sportiness in a single package.

In our image comparison, we see the BMW X6 M50d with M Sport package and the Mercedes-Benz ML-Coupe Concept unveiled at the 2014 Beijing Auto Show.

With the caveat that the MB MLC might slightly change its design for production, let us know in the comments below which one you like best.

Don’t know why but BMW’s M sport package makes BMWs look worst. The two fog lights look light booger LOL just like the horrible looking new X5. Mercedes and Audi’s sport packages actually make their car look better but don’t know why M sport packages just don’t fit onto BMWs. Pathetic design team. The old X6 looks way better than this boxy, bulky (is it an American car) giant and looking at the concept of Mercedes, it looks a lot more streamlined than the new X6, a better interior for sure. BMW used to make better looking cars than Audi and Mercedes… Why? Their new models just look cheap, dated and boring inside out! (other than the 6 series)

And now Mercedes has joined Audi in the race for ugliest front fascia in an automobile…

I have no doubt that new merc will look gorgeous , just like the first cls , a jaw dropping design that will remain hot and unreachable for another 10-15 years…

Agree. The old X6 was more stylish. It looks like the chev impala team got a hold of the new X6, putting creases and kinks all over a much simpler, sporty design. Is this a Hyundai? It’s driving me insane. Give me clean lines, huge fender bulges, fat tires, and low overhangs. Want futuristic, live me lighted badges. And slop the hood. It’s starting to look like a dodge. After 5 BMW’S I’m actually considering the MLC or even Porche. The only redeeming quality is the 50d, but they couldn’t increase the HP a smidge for the American release?

I was looking forward to the new X6 as a potential purchase. Now that it is out I am sorely disappointed. Except for the 4 and 6 series cars, BMW has lost its touch in car design. The X6 is a prime example of bad design that will looks dated already. The MLC”s design is simpler, purer, with lines that are better integrated and sportier. Perhaps the front fascia is too big but I will have to see it in person. I cannot wait for its introduction.

It looks better in person. I’ll let you know how it drives in about 10 days.
