In summer of 2014, the new BMW 2 Series Convertible will join the coupe variant to the also new 2 Series family.
The F23 BMW 2 Series cabrio is built exactly like the previously offered 1 Series Convertible at the Leipzig plant, and it is designed atop the coupe platform. Just like the outgoing cabrio model, the F23 2 Series Convertible will make use of a soft roof top.
The design cues of the cabriolet are similar to the coupe so no major surprises are expected.
Engine lineup will be taken over from its fixed roof sibling so we expect to see a 228i Cabriolet, 220i and 220d, at least for the market launch. BMW will also unveil the M235i Convertible which just like the M235i Coupe will be powered by the 3.0 liter inline-six turbocharged engine producing 322 hp and 332 lf-ft of torque. The M235i Convertible should be capable of 0-60 in 4.8 seconds when optioned with the 8-speed sport automatic.
Top speed will be limited to 155mph and MPG is 22 city/32 hwy for the auto and 19/29 for the 6-speed manual.
The rendering attached to this post gives us a look at the M235i Convertible with the same design cues as the coupe variant.
