Place: Johannesburg. Car: BMW 335i Convertible. Incident: Terrible car crash with a guardrail. Result: Driver unharmed

This is one of those situations when someone is born the second time. A BMW owner living in South Africa had the unfortunate luck to collide with a guardrail while driving his E93 335i Convertible on wet pavement.

The car was presumably traveling at high-speed when the driver lost control and hit the highway side rail. The guardrail went through the car longitudinally and the backrest of the car was pushed out of the windscreen. The rear valance seems to be still attached to the armco barrier.

No other details are offered in the local newspaper but we do know that the lucky driver got to walk away from this terrible crash.

Did it make it through the ski bag pass through? BTW, does anyone else wish the ski bag pass through fit a regular-sized snowboard as well?

Gives “rides on rails” a whole new meaning.

The convertible does not have a ski bag option.

Look closely at the rear tires in the third photo: The directional tread is going the wrong way. Looks like the rear wheels/tires were installed on the wrong sides of the car, so instead of moving water out from under the tires, they were instead pumping water under the tires, leading to hydro-planing.

Looks like it was a wet surface when the car lost control.
