With just a few months before its official debut, the 2014 BMW 2 Series Coupe is going through its final testing stages. The new 2 Series will incorporate in its family the coupe and convertible models, and a potential Gran Coupe variant, while the 1 Series badge name will continue to apply to the hatchback models.
The F22 2 Series Coupe feature redesigned headlights (when compared to the 1 Series Hatchback) with a sleeker and sportier look. The rear lights are also quite different than the 1 Series variants, slightly larger in size and sportier.
In the spy photos below we can also see a kidney grille with gray bars that offer a 3D visual.
The interior design is similar to the one of the 1 Series Hatchback, including the driving oriented cockpit and the free-standing LCD screen in the center of the dashboard. The color options and trims will also follow the ones see on the hatch, but we expect to see some variations on certain models.
The 2 Series Coupe and Convertible are closely related to the current generation F20/F21 1 Series, which implies the use of a rear-wheel drive architecture and in some cases, an all-wheel drive system.
At the entry-level, we expect to see 220d, 218i or 225i models. At the top of the line-up, the M Performance Automobiles sub-division will take over with two high-performance 2 Series models: M235i and M235i xDrive.
BMW will unveil the new 2 Series after the 2013 Frankfurt Auto Show in September.
