The interwebs are feeding on a rumor spread by the usual BMW insider Scott27. According to the long-time sometimes right, sometimes wrong source, the BMW M4 Concept (or potentially M3 Concept) is scheduled to appear to this years’ Pebble Beach Concourse d’Elegance.
Our own sources say that no definitive decision has been made at this point and more will be communicated in the near future. In other words, BMW might be working on it, but nothing is set in stone.
Now as far as the Frankfurt Auto Show debut, we can almost certainly say that the M3 Concept or M4 Concept will NOT be there. The 2013 IAA Frankfurt Auto Show is all about BMW i and the new BMW i3 electric vehicle. Most of the company is currently heavily focusing on the marketing and communication plans for the i3 and a possible unveil of the M3 or M4 in Frankfurt will only distract from the right message.
So with Frankfurt Auto Show out of the question, the next big show will be the 2014 Detroit Auto Show, since the L.A. car show in December is usually considered to be a green car-focused event. But Detroit comes in January which might be a bit too late for the public unveil. The two M twins will most likely show up there, but not as a world debut.
The Pebble Beach event has been used in the past few years as the summer venue to debut some cool concept cars and the new M4 Concept would fit that criteria. It is also important to mention that the Oktoberfest event in Monterey gathers a large following of BMW fans, and German car lovers in general.
