In 2014, BMW is rumored to launch an additional premium compact model based on the 3 Series architecture and the 6 Series Gran Coupe idea. Dubbed BMW 4 Series Gran Coupe, the four-door sport and compact vehicle will compete with the Mercedes-Benz CLS CLA. A prototype was recently spied in the snowy Sweden during the “typical” winter testing sessions.
Built under the codename F36, the BMW 4 Series Gran Coupe is a compact four-door coupe that follows the same design principles, at a smaller scale, as the recently launched 6 Series Gran Coupe. The four-door features a longer rear window that flows into a conventional trunk, a design feature that visually increases the side dimension of the car.
Just like the 6 Series Gran Coupe, the side view shows a stretched and dynamic design that will not only give the car a more premium look but it will also offer more interior room for passengers. The overall dynamic design would appeal to a younger demographic as well and will be a viable alternative to the high-end 6 Series Coupe.

The front and rear design are new to the 4 Series Gran Coupe and will differ from the two-door models. The packages, options and powertrains are expected to be almost identical to the 4 Series Coupe and convertible models.
BMW aims to launch the 4 Series Gran Coupe in the second half of 2014.
