Earlier this month, BMW reported their January 2013 sales which increased 0.7 percent compared to the same month a year before. The 16,513 vehicles sold were boosted by a large increase in the X5 sales (56 percent).

But with 22,501 vehicles or an 11 percent increase in sales, Mercedes-Benz takes the early lead in the U.S. premium segment.  The C-Class sedan’s sales rose 11 percent to 7,214. It’s exactly 2383 units higher than the BMW 3 Series. Interesting enough are the sales number reported by Cadillac for their ATS model: 2781 units, 26 more units than the Audi A4.

Lexus isn’t far behind BMW with 16,211 vehicles sold,  32 percent increase. Their best selling model was the ES sedan (5,186 deliveries).

Audi’s 7.5 percent rise in January accounts for 10,056 vehicles.

Acura’s sales were up 13.2 percent to 9,489 total.

Infiniti had a modest increase of 4.9 percent or 7,126 cars sold.

As far as we see BMW is the only loser among the luxury car makers. Simply pathetic.

Stop. It’s first month and a long race. Was the same last year and both companies are great with unique products and vision.

Mercedes gains won’t last. They are in the process of devaluing their brand with the CLA, as they did with the C230 Kompressor coupe which failed miserably.

Interesting that there was such a surge in sales of BMW’s SAVs especially the X5. Just goes to show that you shouldn’t listen to the tree huggers when they tell you that what people really wan’t are tiny little fuel sippers.

I knew it was going to happen just didn’t know it would be this soon. The ATS will never overtake the C-Class or 3-Series, they’re too established. I could see the ATS and and A4 battle it out for 3rd every month.
