One of BMW’s boldest moves in the past decade is the X6 model. Released in 2008, BMW’s first Sports Activity Coupe combines the attributes of an SUV (high ground clearance, all wheel drive and all-weather ability, large wheels and tires) with the stance of a coupé (bold styling, dramatic sloping roof).
It is manufactured on U.S. soil at the Spartanburg plant, SC and over the years has become one of the most popular BMWs in Eastern Europe and Middle East. The X6 is equipped with the intelligent xDrive system which provides variable torque split between the front and rear axles through the use of a multi-plate wet clutch located in the gearbox on the output to the front drive shaft.
xDrive is connected to the ABS and DSC systems. In the case that wheelspin or directional instability still occurs while xDrive is or has been modulating the torque split, DSC will brake independent wheels to regain traction and improve directional stability without driver intervention.
To showcase the advantages of its intelligent all-wheel drive system BMW reveals on their Youtube channel a commercial featuring the X6 and a snowcat.
