Rumored to launch at the 2013 Detroit Auto Show, the BMW 4 Series Coupe was spotted with limited camouflage near the BMW headquarters in Munich.

Compared to previous spy photos, now the spied test mule gives us a full and clean look at the side design which surprisingly it features a functional vent. Same as the F30 sedan, the 4 Series Coupe will have the new side mirrors with signal indicators. Placed above the side vent, a small badge indicate that we are looking here at the Sport Line model.

As we anticipated plenty of design elements from the F30 sedan will be changed for the higher valued 4 Series Coupe, starting with the front bumper and the kidney grille dimensions. The prototype also comes equipped with the M Performance brakes.

Now shown in the photo below, but available at Carscoop, is the view of the prototype which sports the dual exhaust pipes setup, an indication that we are looking at the highest 4er Coupe: 435i or 440i (if BMW includes an upgrade engine to justify the higher naming designation).

The 4 Series family will make use of four-cylinder engine, in both petrol and diesel variants. Customers looking for more power will have the option to choose 3.0 liter turbocharged engines.

Production will begin in Spring of 2013 with an U.S. launch scheduled for next summer.

  1. Nice color combo; and these 19″ M Sport wheels (403M) are one of the best BMW have done to date. Overall it looks very promising. Sleek, streamlined, sporty proportions, and the aggressively sculpted lower front facia will give it great down the road presence. I’m anxious to see the lighting designs. Only minor complaint (at this point) is the side skirts… I imagine them to be more sculpted to suite the sporty coupe lines. Although, that may be reserved for the M Sport package, and M3/4. Looking forward to seeing the concept in Detroit.

I know this is going to sound nit-picky, but I absolutely detest that side scoop.

  3. Love the look but am not yet sold on it being called a 4 series. Does this mean the M3 coupe is dead for the first time since the venerable e30M3?

i think m3 coupe is history.

but, m3 as original is saloon, 2-door saloon!

      bmw later added estate,and convertible

3er coupe has been born in e36 generation!

  4. Mateo says:

I think it’s just too big!

luckly, new 2 series will be in essence true 3 Series cause 1er is made on same platform.

Yes, hatch is little modified than 3er but for coupe 1er things will be better.

it would be cool if 1er coupe turns out to be true E46 Coupe successor

Like the proportions and sculpture. I hope they just don’t go with cheap halogen lighting.

i can guarantee you that you won’t get an f32 without xenon or full-led.

already the e92 was supplied exclusively with xenon.
