Car and Driver: 2013 Cadillac ATS 2.0T vs. 2013 BMW 328i

The 2013 Cadillac ATS 2.0T tries to dethrone the 2013 BMW 328i from the front of the entry-level luxury segment on the latest episode of Car and Driver.

The first compact Cadillac joins the midsize segment to take on BMW’s top-seller, the 3 Series and the Mercedes-Benz C-Class.

Cadillac ATS will be offered with both rear-wheel and all-drive options, and the company describes it at “nimble, fun and quick,” traits typical of a midsize, sport and luxurious car.

The Cadillac ATS with the new turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine produces 272 horsepower and 260 lb-ft of torque. The BMW 328i is also powered by a 2.0 liter four-cylinder turbocharged unit outputting 240 horsepower and 255 lb-ft of torque.

They should have tested the BMW with the M-package. That would have eliminated the body roll and softnes he is compaining about. Sorry America – but a Cadillac will never be able to measure itself to a BMW. Or any other european car…

There is something that looks cheap about the Cadillac ATS. The CTS was a much better looking car, and the BMW 328i could use a more powerful 2.0T.
