Rally racing’s privateer and Pikes Peak veteran, Bill Caswell entered the Race to the Clouds at Pikes Peak with an E36 BMW M3 electric car.
The 1995 M3 had its guts replaced by a pair of 11-inch motors that produce 700 horsepower and driven by a two-speed gearbox. The car was built by EV West. The cool part is that an electric car with enough power can be a strong contender at Pikes Peak since electric motors don’t suffer from power loss at high altitudes.
The Pikes Peak Hill Climb consists of a 12.42 mile sprint with 156 turns and many describe it as a lot of fun.
