In 2014, BMW is rumored to launch an additional premium compact model based on the 3 Series architecture and the 6 Series Gran Coupe idea.
Built under the codename F36, the BMW 4 Series Gran Coupe is a compact four-door coupe that follows the same design principles, at a smaller scale, as the recently launched 6 Series Gran Coupe. The four-door features a longer rear window that flows into a conventional trunk, a design feature that visually increases the side dimension of the car.
The Hofmeister Kink, one of the most iconic BMW design cues, might be now incorporated into the opening of the rear door, a more fluid approach that would also offer additional exit space for rear-sitting passengers.
Insiders say that the 4 Series Gran Coupe aims to be a sportier version of the F30 3 Series sedan. The overall dynamic design would appeal to a younger demographic as well and will be a viable alternative to the high-end 6 Series Coupe.
BMW will price the vehicle slightly higher than the coupe and convertible variants, and it will be considered a niche model for the brand.
