In celebration of this weekend’s Monaco Grand Prix; the most glamorously celebrated on the F1 circuit, I offer up today’s Super Bild.
Run since 1929, the “Grand Prix du Monaco” is widely considered to be one of the most important and prestigious automobile races in the world, alongside the Indianapolis 500 and the 24 Hours of Le Mans. The circuit has been called “an exceptional location of glamor and prestige.”
Monaco itself is a small principality in the French Riviera and is home to royalty, movie stars, and F1 drivers like Michael Schumacher, so no wonder every F1 driver strives to win at Monaco.
The list of previous multiple winners include: 6 time winner and F1 legend Ayrton Senna, 5 time winners Graham Hill, and Michael Schumacher, and 4 time winner Alain Prost. The constructor with the most wins is McLaren F1 with 15 wins. BMW’s last win was with Juan Pablo Montoya at the wheel of the BMW Williams in 2003.
Today’s Super Bild is of the Monaco GP and Nick Heidfeld at the wheel of his BMW Sauber F1 car in 2009. The stark contrast of the hundreds year old architecture and cutting edge technology that is the modern day F1 car is a reminder why the Monaco GP is one of the most beautiful places to hold a Gran Prix.
Enjoy the race this weekend, and to everyone in the US have a safe Memorial Day weekend from everyone at BMWBlog.com
