On Friday, October 14th, 2011, BMW will unveil the latest generation 3 Series. Ahead of the world premiere, new spy photos appear on the interwebs, and the latest ones gives us a closer look at the interior design of the F30 3 Series Sedan.

As we anticipated, the interior follows the design language introduced in the new 5 Series and most recently, in the F20 1 Series Hatchback. First cue that stands out is the standalone sitting LCD screen.

Remaining true to its core values, BMW has redesigned the cockpit to be even more driver oriented, creating a deeper synergy between the driver and the machine.

The dashboard, controls and gauges with Black Panel technology are derived from the more luxurious 5 Series Sedan and Gran Turismo. The test mule spied below comes equipped with automatic transmission, but it remains unknown at the moment if BMW will offer the efficient and smooth ZF 8-speed gearbox.

    Something in BMW is not happening like it should. Maybe top management should revise BMW`s vision?
    p.s hate that LCD screen, looks like an iPad glued to dashboard.

      A BMW employee was defending that tacky LCD screen, saying it’s like “having a flat screen TV in your car”.  LOL

    This is definitely a step down from the current E90′s interior (with IDrive).  They must be really cutting costs at BMW.  This is literally a recycled 1 series interior with a nicer piece of wood covering the air vents.  I think the worst part about it is that huge gap between the cup holders and console. Its like they didn’t even try on this one.

        We pretty much know that the 3-series will copy the 1-series interior instead of the F10 5-series, so it sucks no matter what.

    you guys are insane — just from those low res photos of a half covered up interior, that looks waaaaaaay more upscale than the E90 3-Series.  Hell, it looks nicer/richer than the 08 535xi I had, and in some ways it looks nicer than the NEW 5-Series interior (glad to see BMW is finally understanding that a little bit of aluminum surrounding the control clusters can make a big difference, a la Benz and Audi).

      you are totallly right…. they shold integrate more chrome to the interior and it would make a huge step forward.. i’m glad that they did in this one it looks way better and nicer than the e90 3-series interior (one of the simplest and ugliest interiors ever from BMW) the e46 3-series interior looks way better than the e90.. and the LCD screen looks really modern and elegant.. i’m really excited and i can’t wait to see the next generation x5′s interior, i’m sure it’s gonna be better quality materials than a 1-series and a 3-series, but the new designs at BMW are way better than the last e’s generation..

      … I guess you also think that simply putting a plastic gold-painted chain on your neck will also make you look “upscale” and “nicer”…

        No, and I didn’t say to murder the interior out with chrome and metal bits, either.  But a thin aluminum surround around the control housings dresses up the interior nicely, otherwise it’s just a sea of plastic in there (especially with a black interior).  A few tasteful bright bits breaks that up.  In my opinion it does add a touch of class and richness to the interior, just like a nice pair of cufflinks or a watch do for a suit.

    Nice… finally the 3 will be back to its nice and elegant form.
    The E60 E90 was a black-sheep, but those days are gone. Even the new 1 series  comes with the 8spd automatic so why would the 3 miss it ? Plus I see that ZF is gushing out these 8spd auto’s. The other day I pictured 600 of them leaving in 1 day.

    I got a picture to prove it :-)    that transmission is a jewel, but needs a better programming then the non-M models have.

      I’m guessing its just the reflection from the handbrake, also i would of thought BMW would of replaced it with an electronic button but other then that i like it :D

    I’m glad to see that they moved the electric window controls back on the driver side, but i don’t think i like the interior, the leather on the seats look glossy instead of the more elegant matte black. The heater knob, and the volume knob look they have been sprayed silver, instead of being chrome, and the glovebox just doesn’t look right somehow, it looks like something audi and vw would do, and the gap behind the cupholders looks a bit bigger than it probably is because the ashtray doesn’t have a cover door anymore (probably because most people don’t really ever close it) But i really like the way the dash flows in over the air vent on the passenger side :D

     —- Yes, if those who criticize this interior are right, then the BMW sales should go down, but in reality it is the opposite.

    While some of you may not like it, I love having two big cupholders right there on the dash. I’ve always disliked how BMW has neglected to put good cupholders in some of their vehicles. Also, I wonder if that LCD lays flat of something because it really does look like a giant iPad in the middle of the dash.

       2 cupholders ? why not 3 ? or 4 ? HEy, why not make a cup-rack out of a dash. Why do we need silly things like speedometer and stuff when the important stuff like a big-gulp has no place ? How about a hot-dog tray where the radio used to be ?  a burger rack ? 

      jeez… cupholders… none of my car has one and never missed it ever.  I carry a bottled water in the side pocket and drink when I’m NOT driving.

        Never in my life have I had a big gulp, but much like the rest of the world I drink my morning coffee in the car. I’m sick and tired of buying cheap, plastic aftermarket cupholders to put on my BMW. When I purchase a premium vehicle, I expect it to have the basic options of a cupholder. If BMW wants to sell a high volume of the new 3 series, it needs to produce it for the average person, not for the Bimmer fan who wouldn’t dare drink in his precious car.

    I’m BORED, can’t they come up with more interesting designs for the interior?
    The C63 looks better. so does the Audi. They should have gotten some clews from Lambo dash’s and instruments.

    Very VERY nice interior I think. I’m loving this new layering design language BMW has implemented and I think they have expressed it very nice here. The slab of dashboard that covers the trim piece gives the design a feel of depth, which I think is important in creating a succesfull interior. 
    A step up from the E90 me thinks, but still slightly behind the e46′s design.. I’ll never like any BMW interior more than that one.
    However, with the recent facelift of the A4/A5 bringing with it new materials in the cabin, and the recently facelifted C Class, I’m not sure what potential customers will like this interior more than those two, as they really do have excellent interiors. As for existing BMW E90 owners (such as myself) I’m sure the owners will be more than happy with this interior coming from the ‘straight as a piece of celery’ interior that we have had to settle for. Great job BMW, keep up the good work. I just hope those radio and climate control knobs are made from hard cold metal and not some warm silver sprayed plastic!

    That looks horrible.  The A/C controls and exposed cup holders remind me of a Honda Civic.

    What’s up with this glued-on “cheap alarm clock”-looking display for iDrive? Did they fire the person who actually had some sense of aesthetics and who designed the interior of F10 models?

      I hate how he tries to spin it.  WE are the customers, not him.

    Not bad, I like it better than the current however I was expecting a smaller version of the current 5 series interior. Not worried about the LCD since that only applies to the badge whores. True BMW enthusiasts will skip the idrive and automatic transmission option along with all the other useless margin rich gadgets.

    OH Damn……

    I was really hoping for better but this……this is horrible. for a premium car like bmw and a very important car like the 3 series they should have known better..this is not just ugly but step backwards…..its like 1 series but with few touches and thats it….why not distance it from the rest ?

    BMW IS CUTTING COSTS. thats so obvious. damn. pity.

    People are so negative nowadays they just criticise everything. I mean look at it compared to the E90 bland interior, you can not ask for more, it is a big step up. Well done BMW.
