Maybe not the hottest comparison on the block, but InsideLine magazine takes the 2010 BMW 328i and places against the all-new, refreshed 2012 Volvo S60 T5. Under the hood, the T5 gets a turbocharged 5-cylinder that makes 250-hp and 266 lb-ft of torque to deliver a 7.2 second 0-60 mph time. The test car used by InsideLine was equipped with an automatic transmission.

The 2010 BMW 328i is powered by the soon-to-be-retired 3.0-liter inline six-cylinder engine that makes 230 hp. Engine-whipping is done by a six-speed manual or an optional six-speed automatic. With less horsepower, but 200 pounds lighter and using a manual transmission, the 328i runs from 0 to 60 mph in 6.4 seconds.

Let’s have a look at some of the track numbers and see how the two vehicles stack up against each other.

You just can’t stop appreciating the precision of BMW and the sheer comfort and toughness of the Volvo. Very different kind of cars…

These are two very fine cars I think there is an appropriate car for your age here BMW is under 40 Volve is 40+.  That puts me in the BMW category.

I d take the Volvo s60 in a heart beat over any bmw 3 series..that car is tough , powerful beautiful……much more comfortable than any bmw , roomier too….the Volvo S60 should rival bmw 5,,,this is just not fair to bmw.

How old are you viper !!   only grand mothers drive Volvo or Lexus . good luck with your Swiss!!!  NO  it used to be no after even Ford doesnt want them !!    yep go get one just remember they all follow the Leader!!!    BMW of course …………

It’s Swedish, professor, not Swiss.  And as a 3 time BMW owner and new Volvo owner I enjoy the Volvo the most.  Insanely, some people drive for transportation purposes and not like A-holes trying to race through traffic constantly.  Also, not too many grannies drive 325hp/350 lb ft torque awd sport sedans or crossovers like the XC60 R design.   And unlike the recent BMW turbo engines, the Volvo’s inline 6 doesn’t blow up due to a HP fuel pump issue.   They also toss in 5 years of full warranty and service coverage and you save $5 grand for a comparable car.   Let me go get my walker.

more like Chinese since they own the brand and will commence qualify cutting corners and hurting qualify to bolster profits…plus nothing handles like a BMW, period.

Interesting how BMW suckers brag about their cars like they own the road. I am 42, own a 2007 Volvo V50 T5 and have yet to beaten by a 3 or 5 series. I pick on them all, but all they get to see is my tail lights!!!

S60 is nice car but underneath is short Ford EUCD platform, under the bonnet is ford ecoboost and duratorq engines (apart from volvo 5 cylinder petrol and diesels), aslo inline 6 is made by ford. Most of the engines are matted to ford’s gearbox.
Where is Volvo??? Oh yes, theres a badge on the steering wheel.

You mean the inline 6 turbo that won the Ward’s best engine top 10 award?

    • LazerVolvo

I have been reading these blogs a lot, and never fell upon someone as wrong as you. Every point you tried to make is incorrect. The engines are all Volvo, the seats are Volvo the Boron Steel cage, unique in the world, is VOLVO. Shall I go on.

No question the 328 is well positioned by BMW in the “kiddie car” market. The 335 is the real “3″. It has it all across the board if the idea is driving. it also has the reputation that allows dealers to sell $50K 328′s. The teenagers, driving daddies car, are going to be hitting every traffic light in town to impress all, with the 100yard GO from that low end torque.
