The new 2012 BMW 3 Series breaks cover today thanks to a reader of F30post who spotted the car during a photoshoot in Spain.

As expected, the new F30 3 Series follows the design lines of its bigger brother, the F10 5 Series. The F30 3 Series could be considered a scaled down 5 Series, but with unique lines that will make it distinctive within the BMW family.

The car also showcases corona rings with full LED treatment which are different from the current generation E90 due to a new design and a “squared” look.

For the first time on a 3 Series, the new F30 will feature signal indicators placed on the side mirrors, a design cue driven by recent European car safety regulations.

From the side, the new 2012 BMW 3 Series Sedan is said to feature a double shoulder line that starts above the front wheel arch and extends to the rear. Despite the complicated and demanding pedestrian safety regulations, BMW managed to keep the car’s nose sitting low, offering a more dynamic look, somewhat similar to the 5 Series sedan.

At the back, the 2012 BMW 3 Series brings out a masculine design with a subtle trunk lid and the L-shaped taillights.

I reckon the only logical explanation why F20 is so fugly is because BMW wants everyone to buy the F30 instead.

Actually the 1er compliments the F30 very well.  When you see both you see that they are looking for each to have an identity and advance the typical BMW headlight shape forward , and seek new ideas and interpretations.
As many other manufacturers seem to imitate not only the outline and shape but also the internal corona rings, these days.

Once seen in real life you will see how the 1er works quite well compared to the photographs. It has it’s own look and for this segment where everybody is doing the same thing over and over again it helps the 1er stand out with it’s own signature identity. And that is important for the premium compact segment.

    looks good!

why use such an ugly dull colour for marketing material??? I don’t like the plastic bit that the logo is placed on – looks so cheap like those Toyotas, besides, it is definitely not attractive to have the BMW badge sitting on a piece of plastic – oh almost forgot, the new badges are made of plastic anyway!

    • wazon

Great point… if I was crazy, I would consider the place of badge as the most important thing in design. Man, are you ok?

    • http://twitter.com/r3dnax3la Alex F

so by the picture you can already tell the material of each visible surface? riiiiiiight

      • FreudeKing

what kind of comment is this: if you pay a little bit of attention to BMW’s new designs, bothered to go to BMW showrooms to have a look and even own a BMW, then you would know the bumpers of cars are made of plastic and new BMW’s bumpers extend right up to the bonnet line, which has been moved back. If you own a BMW, you should know that the badge is made of plastic now a days. I have owned a few and can tell you that it used to be solid metal!

  • wazon

Looks really promising from this angle.

whoa thats bold… theres no ‘skin’ between the headlights and the kidney grille, they’re directly connected like the i8!

that looks really nice, cant wait to see the official pics

Waiting to Buy it !! come ooooon !!!! was thinking about coupe. but this is much better !!! :) come on BMW start the sales this year :)

    • Thawke

Think you can order from November in UK, but the M-Sport kit won’t be out on first release like it normally isn’t, and I won’t be ordering it without that anyway, so wait till early 2012 it is :(

      • FreudeKing

just to let you guys know that BMW only brings out the sports package soon after launch if they sense that market reception on initial car launch is bad (regarding design) and they only had to do it twice these past few years – the current X3 and the new 1 Series.

This is bound to increase the sales of the Infiniti G, Lexus IS, Audi A4 and Benz C class!

    • LexusLVRisToyotasWhore

Don’t forget it’ll increase resale value of your Yaris.  Especially when you are smoking crack and turning tricks to those Toyota execs.

Meh. It looks just like 5 and 7. You’ll have to look twice to actually see which one is which now. Nothing against the design, just a shame that they all lost their individuality.

FAKE! You can easily see the fake if you zoom on the car’s right head lamp…
