On April 1 of this year, BMW unveiled an one-off M3 Pickup, a vehicle that was supposed to put a smile on the face of many BMW fans…and surprisingly, it actually did. Furthermore, many people not only embraced the unique design approach, but were also expressing a wish that a similar model would be available for purchase.

Clearly this remains a design exercise and BMW will most likely never offer an M3 pickup. But what about an X5 truck? What would a real bimmer truck look like?

Rendering artists Theophilus Chin used his magic mouse and design skills to draw out the X5 GranLastwagen, which simply means “Gran Truck” in German.

Now the following question arises: would you be interested in a vehicle of this type? Could the X5 truck compete with some of its American-built counterparts?

    NOOOOOOOOOOOOO !!!

  • MacMax

    It looks like SsangYong :D

  • Lucky13

They could call it the Xcrement because that’s what it looks like. Honda already did this.

Not the smoothest rendering, but I believe it would sell

I wouldn’t but then again I would not ever buy a pickup anyway. I’m sure that it would sell well in the US.
At least in the south… but it must have a V8 and should tow at least 6500lbs. No, not that any person would ever use it, its always just the bragging rights with pickups.
I see more Van’s as HD commercial vehicles , almost never a pickup.

No doubt it wou;d sell especially with the diesel. It wouldn’t be good for overall branding and image though.

That vehicle is truly awful – BMW please don’t do this…

Ugh, the question is who would want one? Well, an SUV buyer that deals with wet gear (SCUBA, surf, fishing, et al) would love something that keeps the wet and dry separate. But would BMW be willing to build it? If they’re willing to build a mini mini-van (http://www.bmwblog.com/2011/07/05/spied-bmw-front-wheel-drive-vehicle/) would they be unwilling to do this? Never a niche to small to fit a car line into. ; -)

tweak the design a bit to make it not look like a ghetto version of an x5 and ya.  if honda can sell ridglines, bmw can too. v10 truck in the future… uhh ya

    NO

    WHY

  • Buckeye

Is it just me, or do those kidney grills look weird on a pickup.  Make them huge, beef up the front and then maybe it would look better.  Really though BMW, don’t make a pickup truck.  Just don’t.

The sort of thing a gay builder would drive but then again most BMW’s are driven by faggots.
