In late 2012, BMW will introduce the second generation 1 Series Coupe.  Built on the F20 platform, the new 1 Series Coupe will move up in class and be sold under the 2 Series badge. The car will share some design cues with the recently unveiled 1er Hatchback, a controversial model that received mixed reviews.

At the front, the new 2 Series Coupe will most likely feature the same headlight design as the hatchback model. The front bumper is expected to have a more aggressive look and a lower stance.

At the rear, the taillights will receive the LED treatment and will continue to be designed with the usual BMW L-shape approach.

In the US, the new 2 Series family will include the Coupe and Convertible models, and a potential M2 from the M division. The engine offerings for the US will include the new four-cylinder turbo engines, along with a higher-end six-cylinder engine.

By positioning the new coupe and convertible as 2 Series products, BMW will be able to sell them at a premium price while including some of the options featured in higher-end models, like the 3 or 5 Series.

    Noooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo

Please stop saying that the 1 series is controversial.

It’s just ugly. BMW is killing itself if they continue to release any car with that design language.

I have a 1 series coupé and there is no way I would upgrade to this. I will be more likely to rush out and grab another of the current model before they run out.

  8. Br says:

Hell no ! Actually I found the problem comes from the nose, it would look better only if the nose’s shape fits..

  9. Rob says:

    piece of sh**

  10. Marcin says:

This face could be easily fixed. I bet a tuner who’d do that not too expensively would have loads of clients.

  11. Manchester Man says:

ABSOLUTELY DISGUSITING AND OUT OF ORDER!!!! I would MUC H rather get the next generation A3 because this 1er looks to much like a joke!! The designers of BMW must have been smoking heroin before designing this.

  12. Viper says:

Id rather ride a scooter than this ugly piece of crap called bmw. imagine ur self in this ”car”..

  13. bry says:

…a lot of harsh comments here. I think the rear three-quarters rendering looks great! I really like the stance and think it looks rather sporty. The only thing terribly wrong with the design is that area between the headlights. The kidney grilles are too narrow, and that space between the headlights and the kidney grilles just looks awkward!

  14. Etuoyo says:

One heck of an ugly render.  But would not be suprised if it is as ugly as this given what we have seen from BMW recently.

  15. Brandon says:

    April fools!

  16. this must never happen..

Just wish they’d release a 1/2 series 4 door in the US.  The 3 series is becoming a monster…

  18. Brendon Davis says:

The only thing I don’t want for a look on this car is those teardrop headlights. Otherwise, I like it.

  19. metinwv says:

Hideous face, but otherwise a nice upgrade (bodywise) of the 1. I disagree, though, with any move to “upgrade it” to a “2-Series.” Anything with the goal of justifying “selling it at a premium price” cannot be good for the consumer. Why not just call it what it is…a 1-Series…and develop the 1-Brand in the U.S.??  I’ve owned a 1 and a 3 in the last three years and drive the 1 twice as much. It is way more fun, way more tossable and way more of what brought me to this brand in the first place. The 1 is nothing for BMW to be ashamed of and/or steer away from. Evolve it and don’t play number games simply to justify price gouging.

Nice chop job.  It almost looks real.  You could have at least used the same car in both photos.
