Next month, BMW will unveil the second generation 1 Series hatchback. The latest spy photos continue to show test mules carrying the usual BMW camouflage that hides the final and finest details. The dimensions of the new 1er are slightly larger than the current generation, proportions that keep BMW as an important player in the entry-level premium segment.

The F20 1 Series Hatchback will be offered with both three and five doors and will further differentiate themselves through the options offered, an Urban Line vs Sports Line, with different exclusive exterior colors, wheels or interior trim.

BMW will offer three non-metallic and three metallic exterior colors. An optional comfort package with 17 inches run-flat tires will be available. In the fall, the more sporty dynamic M Sport package will be introduced as well.

Is there any hope that we can buy the 5 dr hatch in North America?

      Unfortunately, no.

BMW will take big risks on the X6 and 5 GT but seems more intent on convincing themselves Americans won’t like a well done premium hatch.  Makes no sense to me.  How many would they have to sell here for it to be viable for import?  I have never heard that answer.  If there were 2,500 pre-orders would they bring it?

This is sad. So sad. I would even be willing to import a 5-door hatch from Canada if they sold them there. They are so sexy. I don’t want to buy another BMW (keep my 330i) until that hatch comes here or until the z1 (if ever).

Only design complaint is that I wish the Hofmeister kink was smaller.

  5. John Don says:

BMW USA underlines the unpracticality of the American mindset when it comes to their north American cars.
