Latest episode of Top Gear brings back to focus the “M bike” we came to love: S1000 RR. The famous UK show takes the latest Ariel Atom and puts it against the Lexus’s superstar LFA, a Lamborghini Gallardo Superleggera and BMW’s S1000 RR superbike.

The Ariel Atom is powered by a supercharged 3.0 liter V8 and produces 500 horsepower while weighing only 1,200 pounds. That adds up to about 900 horsepower per ton; a ratio that shames anything from a Lotus to a Bugatti Veyron.

The S1000 RR. A state-of-the-art 999 cc inline 4 beats within. The engine produces a staggering 193 hp on its way to a stratospheric 14,200 rpm. 83 lb-ft of torque is produced at 9,750 rpm. The engine has a bore/stroke of 80/49.7, the largest bore of any production litre bike. All this in a highly compact engine that weighs only 59.8 Kg (131.8 lb).
