A young team of Turkish designers decided to put their 3D modelling skills to use and create a futuristic conceptual study for a mid-engined BMW supercar.

İsmet Çevik and Fatih Tezel labeled their artwork BMW Z5 and the styling somewhat resembles Audi’s superstar R8. In the past decade BMW has been criticized for the lack of a supercar and when the R8 was introduced, the voices became even louder.

Next supercar from BMW comes in 2013, but the Munich-based automaker refers to the Vision Concept as a new breed of sportscars, hybrid powered with the performance of an M3. The times of V10 engines are way gone and the future is synonym with efficiency and lightweight.

BMW Z5: Fan Design Study for a Mid Engined Supercar

The BMW Z5 interpretation seen below is quite interesting and two young designers get some applauses from us for their styling idea.

I think I would like a toned down production model of this design more than the Vision Concept… bravo.

a mid-engined z4? it’s interesting. they did capture a lot of current bmw elements. the headlights are an issue – novel, but if they toned them down and made them *somewhat* more traditional, they could work well within those same contours. They look somewhat like the LF-A concept’s swoopy headlight/surface design.

why is it that even a youngish turkish can do better then BMW itself. The Vision concept garbage is already looks stupid compare to this.

argh, BMW needs to get away from this Efficient dynamics stigma and get a grip on design and marketing. The economy and fastest never worked well.

The vision concepts biggest problem is the dual mode. Has to be sporty and wild but needs to be economical. It makes it expensive and ugly.

Porsche executed this with much better results and their car will be 40-50k usd less expensive and twice as good looking.
BMW does need a halo-car, a supercar. No, not a 1.5l turbo diesel electric BS. A real supercar. What the 8 series never was, the bungle cars never even dreamed of being. A wild, but traditional styling, an icon, a true supercar. The M1 Hommage was close, but if the Vision Concept is what was created of it then its a sorry excuse for a supercar.
    We’ll see :-)

I honestly don’t like this kind of styling. No offence to the designer, he did a very good job but I feel like something of BMW is missing in this car.

We might not be seeing BMW making a supercar like the R8, or such but future is coming. Once BMW built the completed Eco-Supercar, everybody else will follow… There’s no point of BMW made their way back to build the V10 supercar as it’s now too late. By the time they’ve done with the supercar, the rest already gone with the Eco-Supercar. You choose…

THIS IS GONNA BE THE MOST DIFFERENT AND SPORTY DESIGN FROM BMW.

The times of V10 engines are way gone… but, is sad, only for BMW… All premium automakers have their own supercar ;(

  • JakeM

I like the front of this design. The snout and face are aggressive and have the “BMW look”, but once you move past the front of this car the design falls apart in my opinion.

The rear end of this design is inspired, it is at once different from all other designs, but has all the requisite vents and venturis needed, with planes and angles nicely integrated. The front mirrors the rear’s V shape, while exhibiting a clear BMW identity. Not bad at all, but not something that BMW would do.

“…but the Munich-based automaker refers to the Vision Concept as a new breed of sportscars, hybrid powered with the performance of an M3.”

Big engines with compromised fuel economy make a supercar. An efficient Car with compromised performance ISN’T.

Get your heads out of your butts BMW!

Both the BMW Vision and this design are in a very tight race to win the World’s Ugliest Car competition. Take a look at a BMW M1 designed over 30 years ago to see what a beautiful mid-engine car with all the traditional BMW cues should look like.

this design looks like the ass out of a veyron.
why bother giving bmw sporty looks when they are giving us electric engines and turbo’s of the future………. we can thank climate change fanatics for that
