Rumor of the day comes from a member of 1Addicts who misteriously managed to get his/her hands on a screenshot showing the power for the upcoming BMW 1 Series M Coupe.

While the 340 horsepower figure has been thrown around for a while now, the latest rumor shows an US model of the 1M producing 445 horsrpower, significantly above the 414 ponies found under the hood of the M3.

This intriguing screenshot of a chart listing different BMW models, shows the engine code for the 1M as being “N54B30T0” with 340 horsepower for the EU model and 445 for US.

In our opinion, this is simply a typo or a mistake in the numbers listed. With the new 1M production running only for 12 months, we find it highly unlikely that BMW would test two different models, since the different power output will require that.

Also, it is hard to believe as well that BMW will place the 1M above the current M3, confusing its US customers and undercutting their best super sporty premium automobile.

More on this shortly!

Of course not. BMW will not let the 1M step ahead of the M3 powerwise.
I am dubious about that list , I know the 1M engine has such potential but it will not become “official” from BMW at least.
And BMW would not specifically introduce this model strictly for the US especially with increasing M markets such as China and Russia closing in on the US for M product.

It looks like they started working at future M3 engine.

        Dear “BMW tuner”,

Another post like that and I’m gonna kick in your door and fart on your dinner.

Wow this is a mildly interesting post, till I saw this. The 332 kw is obviously a typo, but for BMW Tuner to puff out his chest and all but threaten you is a fascinating development. Maybe it’s not a typo? It could be a testbed for a new M3 engine? Whatcha gonna do, Horatiu? Fight! Fight!

        • X5SoB says:

Besides, why didn’t he jump all over 1addicts?

Our usual “friends” that worry more about bmwblog than their own forums. I know exactly how it went down and the pressure some people are put under to not even blink or collaborate with us. This includes advertisers that are squeezed and threatened.
Bad business but not worth discussing here.

The person that asked this to be removed might not even be the original poster but rather someone wanting to go after us. As evidence, none of the other 30+ sites that posted the photo, were asked to remove it. I asked some.

Anyway, we will carry on our reporting regarding where it comes from, including competitor sites. We care about our readers. Period.

Relax dude..it’s a photo of a computer sceen….big freaking issue…you should be happy the biggest bmw news site took the time to post it, especially since it seems it was simply a type in the power output.

wonder if autoblog or jalopnik would even listen to your whinning since they posted first the story.

P.S. funny how a BMW Tuner would come on this site and complain about a BMW story…

Although,it’s very unlikely that BMW will out power the M3 with the 1M, it is very simple to out power and out run the coveted M3 by having DINAN tune your 135i with a larger intercooler… a bigger oil cooler… a carbon fiber intake… an exhaust upgrade and engine software management. This results in 407 HP… which is enough to blow away the M3 in the quarter mile and from 0 to 60 MPH. The M3 Coupe weighs in at a hefty 3709 LBS with only 414 HP (8.96 lbs per hp) and the 135i Coupe only weighs 3373 LBS with 407 HP with the Dinan upgrade. The HP to weight ratio goes to the 135i Coupe (8.29 lbs per hp) This is very significant! You can also have the suspension upgraded with bigger wheels and tires and brakes. This will also come in way below the cost of an M3. With the cost of a fully loaded 135i Coupe and the Dinan upgrade, you will spend about $55,000. and the M3 with the Competition package will run you about $75,000. But for me… I already own a 2010 135i Coupe, so the upgrade only adds about $15,000. for me, which includes Black Out Grills… Carbon Fiber Splitter… Mirror Caps… Rear Deck Spoiler… Rear Diffuser and Carbon Interior Trim… Light Weight Wheels… Tires… Brakes and Suspension and of course the Engine Upgrades! Let’s Race!!!!!!

I don’t but it that the HP will be that high – the only reasonable conclusion would be that the 1 M might also be serving as some sort of test bed for future M powertrains. Other than that, don’t expect nearly 445HP from a current gen. 1 Series

  8. Wooo hoo. says:

Will NEVER happen. BMWs entry level compact near-M-car, getting Higher numbers than THE M3.

    Pretty sad this trend.

  9. E36 BMW M318ti owner from Tokyo says:

thats probably gonna be the engine put in the new generation M3 (F30-). I LOVED the sound from the 4.0 naturally aspirated V8 from the E90- M3s :(. but anyways, M power should get Alpina to lift off the 3.0l turbo straight 6 from the B3 biturbos and insert it into the M1 or 1M coupe. then job done! 0-60 could probably be around 4.2 secs?

  10. Hugo Becker says:

IIRC, the figures were given in kW, with the Euro cars getting 240kW and the US version 332 kW. If you think there’s a typo, I’d suspect that it’s the first 3, and that in reality the US will get a slightly watered down version @ 232 kW. That’s my theory . . . ; -)

  11. viper says:

what a bull , this car gets 350 and thats it , small numbers for fat fck

  12. Daniel Hoang says:

Looks like they are trying to compete with the Nissan GT-R. NOT GONA HAPPEND.
