Last week, BMWBLOG attended the BMW Vision Vision EfficientDynamics test drive event. The “season finale” of DontBlogAboutThis marketing campaign included three lucky winners that would experience the Vision Concept from the passenger side.

Marlene from Zurich, Arturo from Madrid and Anthony from the shores of Miami joined a selective group of journalists to experience the Vision Full Runner prototype.

Coincidentally or not, all three in their 20s and potential advocates of future electric and hybrid vehicles. BMW managed to surprise us once again. Beside the unusual test drive of a future production vehicle, BMW opened its doors larger than ever and welcomed the three lucky winners. Connecting directly with its fans has become a trend these days in Munich, one that we can only appreciate and applaud.

Very interesting. I hadn’t noticed how the tail of the car creates a sort of cavity which isn’t traditional auto aerodynamics. Although, you do see that design on ultra-mileage prototypes, including those x-prize-mobiles. The amount of glass on the roof is also “new”, an cool, although.. is it special glass of some sort, that helps them keep the weight down?

The other unexpected thing was how incredibly awkward this car is to get in and out of, because of how the position of the open door. It doesn’t seem very ergonomic. Lambo-style gull-wings (?) would have been more appropriate here.

But their focus on the contestants was pretty weird. Good production values and all, but I don’t know what marketing was thinking with this. It’s transparently lacking in substance, or forethought.

My feeling was that those three winners were LUCKY! And that I wish I could have been one of them. Plus, for me, it created a sense of celebrity – the car, not the three winners, which, in turn, makes the VED ‘feel’ more special.

In short, it creates a unique human connection to the car.

It’s kinda doubtful that these three winners are just random. They had to be handpicked beacuse of their looks. I kinda doubt they would bring that girl if she wasn’t that good looking.

A tasty Swiss cheesecake, for sure. The contest winners should have been given an opportunity to ride out in the real world, in the daytime. That would have been a much better experience than in a warehouse, in the dark.
