Totally unexpected, the new generation BMW 6 Series Convertible shows up on U.S. soil and out of all places, in Pennsylvania. The folks over at Kilometer Magazine spotted a 6er Convertible test mule in rural Pennsylvania, still wearing camouflage and a covered up dashboard.

Similar to the BMW 6 Series Coupe Concept unveiled at Paris Motor Show, the new 6er Convertible features the shorter overhangs and wider fender flares and it is wider than the current generation, with dimensions between the new 5 Series and the 7 Series.

The corona ring headlights seen in the new 6er Coupe also made their way into the new 6 Series Convertible. The taillights are slightly larger than in the current generation and they feature the L-shaped LEDs.

First reports were claiming a hardtop 6 Series Cabrio, but all the latest information we received point to towards a soft top canvas.

New 6 Series will feature a combination of diesel and petrol offerings. The high-end diesel model will be the 640d, powered by the N57 turbocharged straight-6 common rail diesel engine outputting 306 horsepower. The 650i will be the highest offering powered by the 4.4 liter V8 Twin-turbo engine found in the other 50i models.

The first U.S. 2011 6 Series model will debut in March of next year in the form of BMW 650i Convertible. In July 2011, the 650 Coupe will follow. Later in September of 2011, the BMW 640 Coupe and Convertible will launch, along with the xDrive variant of the 650.

Can they possibly pick uglier rims..

  • Wooo hoo.

    Once again….

They need to make a retractable hardf top an option!

How cheap and outdated does a damn soft top look these days!?

just saw the concept in paris last weekend…really hated it. I prefer the first generation. the chrome trim around the windows looks like an afterthought because there is a gap between it and the panel….the front grill is too low and the panel gap between it and the engine cover is huge….the back still looks to american 4 my taste and the trunk lid lip is toooo big. didnt like it at all. and from most peoples reaction there i got the same feeling they didnt like it to. In fact the car that stold the sgow was the stuning STUNINg R4 quattro concept…AMAZING. if they sell this car i will trade a bimmer 4 an audi for the first time in my life.

i’m not big on the new 6 myself. i have to say, i prefer it to the R4 concept, which looks to me far too much like the CTS coupe. the nose is cool, but it’s like the face is writing checks that the body can’t cash.

honestly i didnt think that much of it in pictures but when i saw it in the flesh…its brilliant. the proportions are just right and looks the part. the lines in the panels, the size, the back…everything. if they make it exactly like the concept im trading my CSL for it because i dont see bmw making any other car like the CSL or the V10 or V8 M3 in the future – someone even talked about a no manual M3?
