The rumor on the street last week was that GM is courting BMW for a possible joint venture. Several automotive outlets reported that at the Paris Motor Show, General Motors were promoting the idea of being open to everyone for future collaborations.
At the time, it was said that a source close to Automobilwoche, a German automotive magazine, mentioned some contacts between the companies in regards to possible BMW engines being used in GM cars.
While attending the opening of the expansion of the Spartanburg Plant, BMW CEO Dr. Norbert Reithofer said the following for Reuters:
“Absolutely no discussions … not on our end,” Reithofer told reporters during an event at BMW’s plant in Spartanburg. “I don’t know where it comes from.”
Of course, negotiations can be secretive and quite long sometimes, so we will follow up in the near future, but for now, we are more inclined to believe the very straightforward reply from Dr. Reithofer.
