One of the most hyped BMWs in the last few years is without a doubt the upcoming BMW 1 Series M Coupe. Called by some, including us, the BMW 1M, the latest addition to the M family, has also marked the beginning of a new era in BMW marketing. The new 1M campaign begun with a dedicated microsite,, followed shortly by short teaser videos, a striptease show at Oktoberfest and a trip to beautiful Paris for further unveiling.

Graphic artists have also had a field day with the 1M, and several renderings have been posted by us and other magazines throughout the year. The latest rendering comes from the always talented Jon Sibal who gives us a closer look at how the final product might look like.

Using some of the design elements shown by BMW in Paris, Jon delivers an outstanding rendering that shows the M core values in this car.

This Rear quarter view rendering features:

  • “duck tail” trunk
  • wider fenders
  • 19″ M3 Competition package wheels
  • redesigned side skirts
  • larger front fender side vent
  • Motorsport side view mirrors

Here’s a version with the brake pedal pressed to show the LCI tailights in action.

The powertrain is another well kept secret by BMW, but we at BMWBLOG believe that it is based on the N54 twin-turbo engine and was further developed by the M Division. Power is rumored to be at least 345hp produced with the help of a large, upgraded intercooler. Weight is rumored at 1,500 kg.

In a recent analysis made by our own Hugo Becker, we concluded, speculatively of course, that the base price will be somewhere around the $45,000 mark.

World premiere of the new M will take place before the Detroit Auto Show in January 2011 where BMW will showcase the car for the first time.

Why does it have SLS style side inlets??? I think who ever rendered this might like Merc a little too much.

    • Ted Spahr

Or Jon was just looking at a SLS at the time of this rendering… Which ever.

  • belenkas

in one picture roof is orange in other black :), i hope and i think front headlamps will look different.

  • plaxico

its supposed to be new and fresh but sadly it looks so old and outdated. Every hairdressers dream tho….

    • XC

It’s supposed to be none of your business… why the hell are you posting here? As if anybody cared about your idiotic comments….

      • Woo Hoo

        Just mad cause he’s right.

  • Wooo hoo.

LOL @ the side inlets and vents in the rear…. Hel-lo ricer!!! LMFAO

Great rendering! Also Alvarez’s renderings are just great, they look as the real thing. Check them:

  • Stacy

Wooo hoo, I think that’s what I like most about it… it’s 2002 E46ness. It’s part of the reason I have a deposit at the dealership already.

  • rmax

BMW need to outsource some of their design specs to Jon Sibal. He does make exceptional renderings than the BMW designs, which is kinda muted and conservative, almost near banal.

Nice 135i dress up in M style with JB2 and a price tag of $$$
