See this is the stuff that makes me love BMW, not the compact car tangent they are on

  • Cybo

I like this idea very much. Anyway, I think this would be of much better use if it where also available to other platforms, at least Android and Blackberry which form the vast majority of smartphones out there for business and enthusiast clients.

Cutting edge tech is where It’s at. In this world of speed limits who cares about 1/4 mile and 0-60 times. It’s all about the status and gadgets that we can show off to people that can’t afford a BMW.

i hope they bring this to the u.s.

This feature is available in the US (unofficially). Create a new iTunes account with any UK address (google for one!) and you will now see the ‘my bmw remote’ app in the app store. Download the app and switch back to your usual US iTunes account. To use the remote app, enter the email id that BMW Assist has on file and the passcode/pin you setup with BMW Assist. If you’re not sure, hit the SOS button and ask the rep to reset your email/passcode. You’re all set to login and test the app!! I couldn’t get the Local Search ‘send address to car’ feature to work, it gives an HTTP 500 error. I’m assuming it’s because the app uses UK google servers blocked by AT&T. Also, car’s exact location is not shown due to US privacy concerns. Instead it’ll tell you something like ‘your car is approx 1500m away from your current iPhone location’. Otherwise everything else should work as described in this article, actual remote features available depend on your BMW model. I use it all the time for the remote door lock/unlock since that’s the only useful feature available for my ’09 328i.

Has anyone actually tried to use the new App? I have a 2010 335i and the App doesn’t work. It shows my vehicle location from 2 weeks ago.

  • Jeff

Hit the icon at the top right, it updates your car location
