Autocar published an interesting report around the Oxford-based company, MINI, currently working on a MINI Sport Activity Coupe, based on a Countryman coupe concept that is on the drawing board. According to their sources, one reason for which MINI is looking into this concept is the highly successful BMW X6 that showed the market potential for such unusual “off-road coupe” variants.
The idea of a MINI Sports Activity Coupe could also be connected to the debut of Land Rover Evoque which has a two-door configuration, small proportions and a coupe-like styling theme.
If the rumors become true, the MINI Coupe based on Countryman would be launched on the market in 2013 and would feature a four-door layout with rear suicide doors on both sides of the car and no B-pillars. Compared to the Countryman, it would have shorter rear overhangs, sloping roofline and shorter side windows.
The British magazine also publishes a rendering of how the new MINI sport coupe could look like.
