Our sister-magazine BimmerToday just completed their review of the 2010 BMW 535i GT.  The detailed driving report will be published on here as well, but in the mean time, a video of the speed tachometer  gives us some numbers that would make any North American driver very jealous.

BimmerToday took the 535i GT to the autobahn and the top speed was recorded at 250 km/h, the cut off point for this vehicle. The 535i GT is powered by the N55 engine, a twin-scroll turbocharged unit. The 2,979cc six-cylinder powerplant features for the first time High Precision Injection and variable VALVETRONIC

The car produces 306 horsepower @ 5,800 rpm and 295 lb-ft of torque available from just 1,200 rpm. Sixty mph arrives in an estimated 6.3 seconds and speed wise it tops at 155 mph.

In the video you can see an acceleration maneuver from 100 to 200 km / h and from 60 km / h electronically limited top speed of up to 250 km / h.

the speedo says 260, yes, but the real speed should be somewhere around 250 kph.

why the constant blinking left , right ? Why change lane so many times ?

    • http://www.BimmerToday.de Benny

Why not? If the right lane is free and you are not overtaking somebody you have to drive on it. Of course many people stay on the left when driving fast but it is not necessary. Changing lanes is not dangerous, so why should I stay on the left lane?

Blinking left for showing driver before you to change the line because you’re much faster. It’s everyday practice on Autobahn. Blinking right – when you meet someone really resistant to change the inside lane.

In Germany (and the rest of Europe) you’re supposed to keep to the right – drive on the rightmost lane you can. No ‘keep your lane’ system. Plus you’re supposed to blink every time you change lanes which he is doing because he is overtaking many cars as he’s driving so fast.

But to be honest, above 200 I stay on the left lane, unless someone is approaching from behind at an even higher speed.

After 120kmh the engine sucks. Very disappointing.

The 5 GT is an amazing car as it is and now with this test; it can truly be said that it is one hell of a top BMW.

  • FreudeKing

    Like the Efficient Dynamics indicator!

The best way to sum up is this. The 5 GT is a perfect car with perfect power. No wonder all future models of BMW are being based on the 5 GT design. Well done BMW

Not bad for its sheer size, but it urgently needs a rear spoiler to complete the rear end.  Personally I think the AC ‘s design was too complicated.  One single piece will be just right.
