Word came down the pipe that starting Thursday, July 22nd, BMW will bring the Gran Coupe Concept in display at the BMW Welt in Munich. The concept will be placed in a special location on the ground floor and everyone will be able to admire it.
This will be its first public appearance after the official unveiling at the Beijing Motor Show. According to our sources, the Moscow Motor Show that begins on August 25th, will also host the Gran Coupe Concept.
Next appearance is scheduled for Paris show in September when BMW will also unveil a concept version of the new 6 Series.
Gran Coupe is built on the ‘backbone’ platform that underpins the current 5-series, 7-series and 5 GT. Design wise, despite having an unique look, the BMW Gran Coupe takes some design cues from the now defunct CS Concept. (Comparison between the two models)
The Gran Coupe has been designed to combine the abilities of a GT and a sports car. The roof is 100mm lower than the 7 Series models, and its rear quarters slightly more restricted. The concept carries the essence of brand values and the genes of BMW design into the future and the expectations are that these styling cues will turn up all over BMW range in the next few years. The sleek Gran Coupe retain iconic elements like the kidney-grille, Hofmeister kink and a less pronounced shark nose.
A production version of the Gran Coupe is rumored to be introduced in 2012.
