Buried deep into the extensive bulletin sent to dealerships, BMW introduced an important change to the 2011 BMW M3 models: automatic/Start Stop.

Seen in other BMW vehicles, the Start-Stop technology now comes standard in the M3. Start-Stop is a feature developed from BMW’s EfficientDynamics strategy that will shut down the engine under certain conditions when the vehicle comes to a complete stop.

The benefit of this technology is reduced fuel consumption and the function can be switched on/off via a button located next to the Start/Stop button.

The way it works is that the system automatically switches off the engine when the car comes to a standstill. As soon as the driver puts in the clutch or depresses the gas pedal, the engine fires up automatically.

This is great one…….. yeah automaker should make use of developing technology…… more and more effects should be bring in to save the fuel…….i really like the concept of this start and stop technology and they should use this in other BMW models too…..

Just think about how many times the car will come to a complete stop during its lifetime. Start Stop technology seems like a sure fire way to wear out the starter motor pinion and the flywheel ring gear. And what about if it fails to start.. I rest my case.

paul dont you think bmw would of thought about that. we have had start stop in europe for a while they rolled out this first on the inline 4’s. so the system should be ironed out by now. so people will always find something to moan about. Dont forget there is an option to turn it off. you have not presented an case paul.

I wish there was a way to upgrade the E60 M5.
