With two years before its official unveiling, the next generation 2012 BMW 3 Series has been spotted during the regular field tests. Sporting the usual psychadelic camouflage and plenty of plastic fake body parts, the new 3er  spy photos give us a glance at what to expect inside.

Still slightly camouflaged, the interior reveals a different approach for the interior design. While the driver-oriented dashboard remains, the 1-Series-like air-vents are featured in this prototype. In our quest to find out more about this interior design, BMW insiders revealed that this could be a 3 Series test mule using as decoy a 1 Series interior.

Unfortunately, everyone’s lips are sealed on this one and there is too much room left for speculations.

What we can certainly confirm about the new 3 Series is that a wide range of engines will satisfy buyers with different wallet sizes. First, BMW will introduce new four-cylinder petrol and diesel turbos to stronger diesels. Second, BMW’s award winning six-cylinder turbocharged engines will continue to be featured in the 2012 3 Series. The super sporty M3 will also sport a turbocharged powerplant, but details around it remain sketchy at the moment.

BMW will also enable the next 3 Series to feature the very latest in Efficient Dynamics technologies, such as aerodynamically designed wheels , BMW active aerodynamics, solar roof panel for extra energy efficiency in the use of interior controls, brake energy regeneration , stop-start technology , pre-heating technology for the engine, gearbox and differential. Many of the technology powering the new 3 Series, such as the climate control system or telematics, will be completely re-engineered.

The car is rumored to make its debut next fall at the Frankfurt Motor Show.

thats just a recycled bin part from the 1er and current 3 ser…thats shot tells us nothing at all…its still in pre production form

  2. Paul says:

but if you really want to know how it looks its easy. Just take a look at current 5er, 7, GT and it will look almost exactly the same…same sausage different lenghts

I love the interior of the 5, 5GT, 7, it is the best in class when you compare to the cheap offerings from Audi and the strnage looking interiors of the Merc. BMW’s recent interiors are classy stylish and of good build and quality. I would rather have something like that than the current 1 Series or 3 Series interior, although they are OK.

  3. Uh that dash looks quite unique to the 3 – even compared to the F01 and F10. The arrangement of the vents below the iDrive and the dash below that look unique to the F30.

”next fall at the Frankfurt Motor Show”? that seems to early

  6. T says:

It is the 1er dashboard, fit and finish is not a priority at this early stage.
The new 3er will be unveiled in London in November 2011, prior to BMW’s Sponsorship and official vehicle of the 2012 Olympic Games.
The public premiere occurs on March 2012 @ Geneva.

The new BMW 1er will make it’s Premiere next September at the IAA.

  7. Mathis Haas says:

This is just the new 1series interior, the new 1 series should be out before the F30/next 3series.

  8. badger says:

  9. bmw m3 says:

  10. He-46 says:

First note the DSC button over the start button. Then note the padded instrument cluster: very sporty, very unique.  I encourage everyone to visit the Car & Driver website which have clearer pictures of the interior and instrument cluster.

This is definitely new and unique to the 3 -series.
