This years race at Miller Motorsports Park took place on a Monday to coincide with Memorial Day, an American Federal holiday. This is the first time in 22 years of competition that the checkered flag waved on a Monday afternoon.

Where were the BMWs when the flag fell?

Troy Corser made the best of a great race start, moving into fourth position. After being overtaken by a couple a riders, Troy later inherited his 5th place finish in race one by a retirement up the running order. Ruben Xaus finished the race in 10th place.

In race two, Troy ran as high as second place before falling back down the field where he eventually finished again in fifth place – only 2 seconds off of a podium finish race time! Ruben finished race two in 11th place. Once again we can see the competitiveness of the BMW Motorrad team in this closely fought competition – impressive considering their relative inexperience in this series. Having already scored the team’s first podium finish, a third place in Monza, surely Troy and Ruben have a race victory firmly in their cross-hairs.

Here are the team quotes from race day:

Troy Corser: “Overall, we can be happy today. Nevertheless I am disappointed about the Superpole result as I had to start from the fourth row. In the first race I had to fight with some chattering, and I had some trouble with the edge grip of the tyre. We changed the rear spring and made a few adjustments for race two and the bike felt a lot better. But the grip issues came back towards the end of the race and we struggled to maintain a good pace. Still, we know what we have to improve now.”

Ruben Xaus: “To be honest I am disappointed with today. I got great starts in both races and I was right with the top guys but I just couldn’t do the times over race distance. The team and I have worked tirelessly all weekend and made some real steps forward, but we just couldn’t make it happen in the races today. Still, the team did a great job and I must thank them for that. Also, congratulations to Troy because he did a great job – I just wish I could have been up
there with him. I hope we can join him at the front in Misano.”

Berthold Hauser – BMW Motorrad Motorsport Director: “After yesterday’s Superpole I was not expecting to do as well as we did today. I am really happy with the performance from both Troy and Ruben. We struggled at this circuit last year so to achieve what we did today is a real step forward and big positive for the team. We are improving with every race and getting closer to the top, which is great to see. I must congratulate the whole team once again for doing such a
fantastic job. We can now look forward to Misano.”

    Steady as she goes!

Watch these two bikes… I have a feeling we will see them at the front consistently within a year or two.

    Great job guys!
