Courtesy of MotorAuthority, we are bringing you a spy photo of the new 2012 BMW 6 Series Convertible sporting less camouflage than ever seen before. The breaking news last week revolved around the North American market receiving a six-cylinder engine in their 6 Series line-up, but today, we were able to confirm that the the first U.S. 2011 6 Series model will debut in March of next year, and the first model available will indeed be the BMW 650i Convertible.

In July 2011, the 650 Coupe will follow. Later in September of 2011, the BMW 640 Coupe and Convertible will launch, along with the xDrive variant of the 650.

The contradictory reports around the 6 Series top variants continue. First reports were claiming a hardtop 6 Series Cabrio, but based on our latest inside information and spy photos, we stated that the new 6 Series will continue using a soft top.

Today, a new rumor launched by the same BMW insider Scott27, mentions the hardtop as being offered as an option to the new 6 Series Convertible. Unfortunately, we cannot confirm these latest allegations and ourselves are bit reluctant to acknowledge them as being valid. The development, testing and production costs of two variants of the 6 Series Convertible would be quite high for BMW and we certainly don’t see a valid business decision behind the alleged decision.

As seen in the spy photo above, the 2012 6 Series is slightly longer and wider than the current generation. It will have shorter overhangs and a lower roofline which implicitly gives the car a more muscular look. The new 2012 BMW 6 Series will not be a twin-brother to the highly acclaimed and much missed CS Concept, but some design cues from the canceled CS Concept and the recently unveiled Gran Coupe made their way into the final design.

The design lines return to the super sleek look and we expect to see plenty of concave and convex design lines hidden underneath the camo, lines that will enhance the luxurious sporty look of the new 6er.

Even though still hidden with tape, the photos reveal the corona ring headlights as seen in other BMW models, a common gene in new BMWs.

The 2012 BMW 6 Series is rumored to be unveiled later this year at the Paris Motor Show and possibly a U.S. unveiling in L.A.

As always, stay tuned for further updates!

What a fantastic new that they decided to stay with soft top!!! Am I right that it will be the only four sits convertible with soft top? If yes, I would claim that this will be consider by customers as advantage of this car, since it will reduce the mass and won’t affect performance so hard.

The Head Light looks like the Grand Coupe Concept…n the Front Bumper looks very nice.I’m impressed.
A very good replacement for the 6 eries.even though this 6 series on the Road will not be forgotten for the next 20 yrs or so!!!

EEEEEEEWWWWWWWWWWWWWW! This is no sleek design – the front lights are in the shape of bug eyes – and I don’t think a fly is sleek, unless you do. Besides this, I think it is pretty boring – the shape and design is basically the same! Please, maybe a few different lines running up and down the side. Can they not do something more drastic? Something like the 850csi from the 90’s. Why must the 6 series just be another car.

I think it looks ok, but then again, its up 2 u. Remember, when bmw tried to make different lookin cars, all of its enthusiasts shamed them, so therefore they have to make their new genrration of cars a little more porportionate.

But it still looks really good, reminds me of a beach convertible owned by rich guys… I dunno.

  • Lariv

The front looks a bit funny but I will reserve judgement until the official photos are leaked.

Awesome! Now if they would only do this for the new M5!

  • BMfan

wish I could place an order and be one of the first to drive the 650i,

Those kidney grill slats shaping is revolutionary. little wonder it was all covered up till now. this is going to be no ordinary car for sure.

Only thing I wish they would change at this time is the mirrors… Everything else looks quite good actually.

  • Plamen

I think the design will be inspired by the last z4 …very similar ..and that’s the good news because the new z4 has amazing design!!!

  • kenee

I think the 6 GT will look great with the roofs down. Any news on the 6 GS or GT convertible and its expected release date?
