The silly game of the 2012 BMW M5 renderings continues, but this time, the photoshoped images turned out to be very good. Alpina325ci, member of the forum 5post, delivers some impressive images of what the next M5 might look like.

The new 2012 BMW M5 is rumored not to be only one of the most aggressive and the fastest M to date, but to also incorporate plenty of “green technology”, as part of BMW’s future plans and investments in the EfficientDynamics program. BMW plans to use several new technologies and a KERS system that will put the new M5 ahead of the current model, both in performance and fuel efficiency.

With the new model, BMW M Division estimates a 20% cut in CO2 emissions.

Designed for Performance

The M5’s secret has always been to remain understated and discreet on the outside, but within lies the “beast”. The typical M5 and BMW M aerodynamic features are featured on the car. With the new 5er central grille being much larger, the central intake size has been diminished. Wheel arches are swollen to add some mass on the F10’s athletic body. A side air intake is placed underneath the character line which climaxes at the wheel arch. The side skirts are more sculptured allowing for good aerodynamics.

At the rear-end, the typical quad exhausts remain with a sculpted diffuser and central intake. A small bootlid spoiler allows the car to remain understated and restrained.

Power

The M5 will inherit a dual clutch transmission which will be unique to the M5, based upon the 7-Speed transmission currently found in the M3. 8-Speed unit will also be available and will be equipped with a stop-start control. The DCT will be operated with steering wheel mounted shifting paddles. The new M5, although not from the beginning, will also be available with optional Carbon Fiber brakes.

The 2012 BMW M5 is powered by an updated version of the engine found in the BMW X5 M and X6 M. The 4.4-liter V8 twin-scroll powerplant will peak at 578-horsepower and 530 lb-ft of torque.

The 0-62 mph dash should take about 4.4 seconds, even though we expect to see lower track times.

To keep the weight down, BMW will make extensive use of carbon-fiber and aluminum parts, starting with the a carbon-fiber roof. The car’s construction will be a hybrid of an aluminum spaceframe for the front section and a traditional steel monocoque for the passenger compartment and rear. Up front will be an independent suspension with MacPherson struts, with a multi-link layout for the rear.

The new M5 will make its debut early next year.

automatic in the M5 ? I doubt it… DSG all the way in all the performance models.

  • Ward

This is awesome. The design is very awesome.

    awsome interior!

  • lennardt

Very nice! I just don’t like the front. It looks to much like 6series

  • Bryce

Probably the best rendering I’ve ever seen… very well done. i hope this really is close to reality because that car looks awesome.

  • Andrew

Is anyone else kind of disappointed that months in advance of it’s release, we see what the car will look like? Sort of takes the surprise out of it.

  • wazon8

Great looking car both in terms of exterior and interior design. Hope that this thing is really close to what BMW’s designers have in mind when they think about M5. Since I saw 5-er F10 few times (unfortunately, one was even crushed), I bet that this M5 would look even better in real life conditions. It’s a pity that a M-look-like package won’t be avaible for 5-er until M5 shows up.

BTW, are there any plausible predictions about weight of future M5 and values that KERS gonna add to the already known parameters of 4.4TT M engine (especially how big increase of torgue should we expect when using KERS system)?

    nice day hj

I forgot. It is unusual. Wonderful!

  • viper

thats the one , nothing so special about the rendering I dont expect bmw M5 to be a hey look at that car! , no , same as always a very discreet car , like the red interior!

  • Arthuro

    woooowww!!! FANTASTIC!!!!!!!

  • viper

    BREAKING!
MB plans to make E65 AMG.
besides E63 there will be a brand new rumored 6.0! V12 well over 600hp and well over 1000Nm E65 , now this doesnt make any sense at all , the E AMG vs M5 will be a total and instant knock out , a tfko.

    wheres the downsizing here?
who cares about green and co2?
    hail MBENZ

    • Auday

you could put a Mack engine on any car and it would score good 0-60 numbers. The question is could the car harness that power and steer it through the corners.

    • wazon8

Well, another MB that will have problems with dealing with its power and which will be faster only when restricted to staright line acceleration. I wouldn’t expect great handling from this car, since brand new E63AMG has lower avarage slalom speed than M5E60. Perhaps it will be featured with poor transmission, since MB doesn’t have decent gear box that would manage with such amount of torgue. Desperate politics! Why can’t they achieve desirable performance from the very beggining and always has to produce another version of their AMG cars? In the case of W211, they provide 55AMG as M5E60 rival at first, then they switched to E63AMG as M5′s rival. What I like BMW for is that they provide well developed car from the very beggining and I as customer wouldn’t have to ask myself, why didn’t I wait a little bit to buy better version of my allegedly top car in its serie.

      • viper

same thing with S63 and S65 etc…etc… they always improve and not that the 63 lacks in something except power but you can choose the high end model the S600 , a more powerful S63 and if you are not happy with ur S63 then buy S65 and live happy ever after , ofcourse thats not the end of it….you can it send it to brabus or kleeman and rocket urself to the moon. I respect what MB does , while you can only choose one M5 , imagine if you had two versions of M5 one that beats everything and the other that beats EVERYTHING.that be cool

        • wazon8

First of all, M5 E60 was faster than MB E55AMG and E63AMG both in straight line accerelation, if you take their times from 0 to 200km/h, and on tracks. So, the fact that MB provides two versions of their E AMG didn’t give too much. Second, if one wasn’t satisfied by his M5 E60, he can give his car to such tunners as G-power, Kelleners Sport, Dinan, Hamman, AC Schnitzer or Hartage, each of which have regular contracts with BMW. M5 Hurricane – outperfirming each MB sedan – is great example of how MB Rocket waste its power and torgue.

      • viper

by the way when the E65 arrives in 2011(as they say 2011) , I think they will improve him on the track times not that it matters in any way , also it will be ROCKET on a straight line , some 3,9er or less to 100kmh and I think a 7speed automatic , they need something really good to manage those huge torques , amazing

        • X5SoB

I’m curious, if your such a fan of Mercedes, why do you continue to lurk at a BMW site? And Horatiu, why do you let him?

  • blk7

WOW ! This render looks amazing. love it

  • http://www.carinfo.ge ///M-POWER

    BMW ///M5 F10 the Best!!!!

  • X5SoB

Honestly, I like TopSpeed’s rendering better, this one is almost too understated. BMW should do something wild that looks nothing like any of the renderings offered up so far, they won’t, but they should.

  • etuoyo

If the last generation is anything to go buy the exterior is perfectly accurate except the bit underneath the doors will be curved outwards rather than straight as it is on the regular 5 series. Wish BMW would make it a bit more wild though,

  • phantom

come on 578 hp is not enough, it should be have at least 589 hp.

    • viper

thats only 11hp and ur making a big deal out of it , if you said 650 then it would make sense , dont be a crybaby , this M5 looses from the start .deal with it

  • tom

OMG that was cool, awesome, I would buy one

  • EMPOWER

Viper you can tell your a mercedes fan alwaya seeing what BMW is up to. just like merc looking at wants happening at bm. Where as none of of bmw fans ever look at a merc web site BMW set its own path there are the leaders of the pack.
The car looks great only thing i would change is the rear lights, i would smoke the lenes

    • viper

when you buy a Merc S class you get a free bmw 328i along with 4 keychains.how cool is that , a strong partnership no doubt

  • indio guthwalla
