I have a E61 Wagon now – the 5GT is too big for my garage, besides being ugly as heck (it’s based on the 7er rather than the 5 so is huge) , it’s also not available with a stick. If I have to go auto anyway and there’s no wagon I’ll probably end up with an E class or A6 :(

Much better looking than the prior 5-Series Touring. And I’d take this over a 5GT hands down.

I don’t see the similarity between the GT and touring; the remit is completely different. I imagine trying to put a dog or family weekender luggage in a GT that would become obvious. Similarly, at least as BMW will have us believe, the touring is too utilitarian for the executive who wishes to impress their passengers with a roomier interior and increased back seat luxury. I can see that maybe the GT is a niche too far, maybe, but the 5 touring is just a very good saloon with increased practicality. Which cannot be a bad thing.

I know people love touring cars (wagons), but this car is absolutely pointless in my opinion. I thought the whole purpose of the 5GT was to meet the needs of the people who enjoy/need this type of car. Will anyone buy a 5GT if BMW offers a 5T, that’s cheaper and does all the same tricks? I don’t really think so.

It looks very cohesive, not like a sedan with a backpack. More like a shooting brake than an estate. And miles sportier than an E-Class or A6.

Looks really, really stunning. I look forward to euro ncap testing and hope for a big improvement on safety over the previous model. If it performs well then this would be an awesome kids/dog family car.
