While the video is in German and there no subtitles available, we believe most of you will enjoy seeing the new 2011 BMW 5 Series in motion once again. The new model has recently launched at the International Media event in Portugal and we have already provided live coverage here and here.

Our first impressions were on the positive side, with the new 5 Series showcasing precise handling that one expects from a BMW. The sedan handles tendency to understeer very well, offering a very balanced ride.

Despite the increase weight, around 1,700 kgs for the automatic model, the ride quality doesn’t suffer and continues to offer an impressive, dynamic ride.

The 3.0 liter single turbo engine carries out his work, otherwise unspectacular, but not boring: overtaking can be done with confidence thanks to the new ZF eight-speed automatic transmission that is magnificently matted in harmony with the engine.

Fuel consumption (not officially measured by us), as reported by the onboard computer, is around 11.6 liter/100km (20.2 MPG), significantly higher than the officially reported 8.4 liter/100km figure. Granted though, the car has been put through some intensive driving and fuel preservation has been the least of our concerns.

With this being said, let’s have a look at the lengthy video posted by Autobild TV.

8.4 l/100km?!… that’s awesome! a 2000 328i is rated at 8.1l/100km highway… so for a very slight bump in fuel burn you get 300hp vs 197hp….. OH YEA!! and this car is way heavier than a 328i.

    BMW builds fantastic engines!! :)
