The BMW M5 needs no introduction anymore and everyone acknowledges that the M5 has been, as Mr. Clarkson says, “the ultimate sport saloon”…so it comes to no surprise that the next generation BMW M5, due in 2011, is already creating huge buzz amongst BMW fans.

The new 2012 BMW M5 is rumored not to be only one of the most aggressive and the fastest M to date, but to also incorporate plenty of “green technology”, as part of BMW’s future plans and investments in the EfficientDynamics program. BMW plans to use several new technologies and a KERS system that will put the new M5 ahead of the current model, both in performance and fuel efficiency. With the new model, BMW Motorsport estimates a 20% cut in CO2 emissions.

Designed for Performance

The M5’s secret has always been to remain understated and discreet on the outside, but within lies the “beast”. The typical M5 and BMW M aerodynamic features are featured on the car. With the new 5er central grille being much larger, the central intake size has been diminished. Wheel arches are swollen to add some mass on the F10’s athletic body. A side air intake is placed underneath the character line which climaxes at the wheel arch. The side skirts are more sculptured allowing for good aerodynamics.

At the rear-end, the typical quad exhausts remain with a sculpted diffuser and central intake. A small bootlid spoiler allows the car to remain understated and restrained.

Power

The M5 will inherit a dual clutch transmission which will be unique to the M5, based upon the 7-Speed transmission currently found in the M3. 8-Speed unit will also be available and will be equipped with a stop-start control. The DCT will be operated with steering wheel mounted shifting paddles. The new M5, although not from the beginning, will also be available with optional Carbon Fiber brakes.

The 2012 BMW M5 is powered by an updated version of the engine found in the BMW X5 M and X6 M. The 4.4-liter V8 twin-scroll powerplant will peak at 578-horsepower and 530 lb-ft of torque.

The 0-62 mph dash should take about 4.4 seconds, even though we expect to see lower track times.

To keep the weight down, BMW will make extensive use of carbon-fiber and aluminum parts, starting with the a carbon-fiber roof. The car’s construction will be a hybrid of an aluminum spaceframe for the front section and a traditional steel monocoque for the passenger compartment and rear. Up front will be an independent suspension with MacPherson struts, with a multi-link layout for the rear.

BMW will unveil the new F10 M5 at the Geneva Motor Show in 2011.

your everyday car , not a head turner , was never actually.
hail amg and their muscular elegant designs , bmw guys know shit about style

    • Andrew

The pro’s of a BMW are that they can both go and stop rapidly – unlike Benz.

Viper, why have you never had something interesting to say? I recognized that you conceive yourself as mature man with sense of style, but maybe you should pay more attention to some other facts. First of all, you’re boring, since you always say the same craps. Moreover, I doubt that you’re able to understand the point of such cars as BMW M5 at all, because you dirve clumsy E-class with pretty slow diesel. And finally, your attitude to sport cars is childish, because you think that straight line acceleration is the most important thing in assessing performance of these cars. I recognized that straight line acceleration is the thing that impressed mostly these poeople, who has almost nothing in common with cars with decent performance. Man, how long could you enjoy simple accelerating on autobahn? Tracks are right places where one can find real fun with car and improve his driving skills. For me M5 F10 can have 4,4 to 100km/h, because what I really need from it is lap Nurburgring in 7:50 – 7:55.

      • viper

dont you see wazon that doesnt matter….how stupid do wanna push to get stupid?.. lap times are Not important in your life..bmw made M5 CLS…whats really cool about it made even faster lap on Nurburgring , but whats even cooler is that they are not going to produce it?!…stupid bmw , a virtual showing off , they are so stupid and it made me sad…really, you probably wet yourself when u heard the news…I was glad and sad at the same time pissed off..like you are

This is pretty impressive.. so many fanboys and automotive-uneducated people posting here. BMW won is name because of it’s petrol engine.. mid / high performance engines. If you have any passion for automotive mechanics, and you’ve worked on couple of BMWs, believe me you would understand the superiority it has. It’s not only about acceleration, braking, cornering.. it’s about the feeling you get (no.. not the “I’ve got a bimmer, I’m kewl”..). BMW cars have a soul, Mercedes doesn’t.. it’s not consistent at all with it’s models. When you buy an M car, you get the best of performance with the best of comfort and drivability. You get an AMG, you get most of the times get an overpowered car with no personality. It’s difficult to fit most of AMG cars to any segment. Take for example an SL Black.. overpriced, overpowered rubber burner that is as comfortable as a pile of rock. Take for example a new S class AMG. Is it a race car? No. Why did they fit a chronometer in it? Its a presidential class car, not a sport executive saloon. These AMG cars make no sense at all. M3 – best in it’s class, M5 – best in it’s class, FROM FAR. I owned a C class C230 and an E Class E320 CDI. Great cars, reliable (apart of electronics..) but once you get in a 3 series 325i.. or try out a 535d.. there is a completely different feeling. You and your car are in harmony. Don’t take me wrong.. Mercedes makes good cars, very good, but BMW has that BMWness that is unique. Period

  • viper

Ive heard the opposite many times…..like bmw has no soul at all , rubbish & not interesting interior designs , rubbish & not interesting exterior designs apart from some models like the current 6 series , long lost m3 csl , the X6
AMG cars are way more powerful and better looking and way more expensive than any M car out there..Period.
    that tells something.
many problems with bmw cars too. I know owners , was once myself , who had shitload of problems with 3series,X5 ,1series….but it doesnt matter really…
it is true that maybe bmw diesels are better than MB cdi’s… they have that werid noise like the ones from 1970s that tak tak tak tak…dont know the situation with the new E class however….when drive in a benz the feeling is like a tank & airplane feeling….the feeling I have with bmw is very sharp and uncomfortable…
bmw cars have a soul huh?…man listen to me when I say to you , cars do not have a soul , if there is a car in the world that may have soul or some sort of it its a Benz car , a Ferrari , Lambo , the Jag…bmw? nah!
