In our opinion, one of the most exciting BMWs coming out in the next two years, is the redesigned, revamped, reinvented F10 BMW M5. While many of us are still die-hard fans of the current E60 M5, progression and technology advancement has to follow a normal path, and the new BMW M5 promises to deliver that.

The new 2012 BMW M5 is rumored not to be one of the best M to date, and the fastest of course, but also it will incorporate plenty of “green technology”, as part of BMW’s future plans and investment in the EfficientDynamics program. BMW plans to use several new technologies and a KERS system that will put the new M5 ahead of the current model, both in performance and fuel efficiency. With the new model, BMW Motorsport estimates a 20% cut in CO2 emissions.

An updated version of the engine found in the BMW X5 M and X6 M will make its way into the F10 M5. The 4.4-liter V8 twin-scroll powerplant will peak at 578-horsepower and 530 lb-ft of torque, 60 horsepower more than the Mercedes-Benz E63 AMG, but the same as the Audi RS6.

The car is rumored to feature a modified version of the M3’s M-DCT system, but a second transmission option might be offered as well.

The 0-62 mph dash should take about 4.4 seconds, even though enthusiasts expect lower number. Top speed will be an electronically limited 155 mph, but with this removed the new M5 should top out at 188 mph.

To keep the weight down, BMW will make extensive use of carbon-fiber and aluminum parts, starting with the a carbon-fiber roof. The car’s construction will be a hybrid of an aluminum spaceframe for the front section and a traditional steel monocoque for the passenger compartment and rear. Up front will be an independent suspension with MacPherson struts, with a multi-link layout for the rear.

The F10 BMW M5 will be unveiled at the end of this year with a debut at the Geneva Motor Show in 2011; sales will follow shortly after.

I am very eagerly awaiting its arrival! :)

  2. L1ndja says:

I just hope that it doesnt sound like the X6 M and 5..They must tune that exhaust or something because it sounds so weak..As for the 4.4 its not bad but considering that the M5 e39 could get it on 5secs and the e60 on 4.5-6 it should be better..
I also hoped that bmw would finally crack 600hp but it doesnt seem likely although they should have ..

  3. L1ndja says:

Oh and i almost forgot..I dont believe that bmw has that Kers Technology ready for it but lets see they are always the First For something..

  4. vh_jan says:

    this looks very nice!!!!

  5. Bryce says:

It sure looks sharp in white with the black carbon-fibre roof! I’ll take one!

  6. Saleem says:

I’ve been saying all along this car is a winner in white IN black you would have to see it in person to fully appreciate but here it looks splendid.

  7. wazon8 says:

Finally, M5 will get carbon roof. No matter how fast will it be on staright line, what I really expect from M5 F10 is to be the fastest saloon on tracks.

  8. Vaybach Khan says:

well im sure its gonna be best m5 by performance and technology, but i wonder would bmw change m5 just in new set of body kit,or it would be different from base model and by for instance headlights hood or something else..cause we first saw it in e90 m3…whats gonna be first in new m5..we can wait and see…

  9. viper says:

it should be the best m5 to date…but no…it will be slower and fatter than the e60 , smaller engine combined with turbos equal more power but necessary faster

    • vixin says:

get a life u screwed up asshole
      this M5 will kill
      E63,CTS-V,RS6
      easy
get is so you gay fukka get off this bmw blog

      • Tom says:

        dont even egg him on
clearly hes not going anywhere anytime soon lol
i actually wait to see what he says, cause theres at least one comment on every post
be the bigger person and ignoreeee it.

cf roof would look AWESOME. sick rims too

        • viper says:

wait and see , your m5 is your only hope anyway , but it will fail miserably in hands of E63..by that time the E class will have a first facelift the rs6 will have 700hp, bmw will be left behind as always.

          • Kodey says:

Fail to the E63?? Please, i am young, i don’t feel like driving around in a old mans car, i still enjoy living life to the fullest, that means driving in a car that will be noticed except by old men and can handle its own against its competitors. The M5 started this segment, and will no doubt continue to be the king of the segment that it created. The only car that i personally see as a competitor to the M5 is the Audi RS6, Btw Audi is even stepping up its game and proving itself far Superior to Mercedes, ironic isn’t it?

          • bmwm6 says:

            lol 700hp

            your dreaming kid
not yet they cant shadow there r8 stupid
go back and play with your hotwheels toys

          • :p says:

Viper, please remember that these are prelim numbers. If the CTS-V can make 0-60 of 3.9 seconds and the title of fastest nuremberg time for a true 4 door super sedan with a 556 hp V8, The M5 will suppass it in speed and style. There aready 700+ hp tuned cars. I doubt audi will make uncontrolable beasts to use on the road

    • Babken says:

I didn’t expect any answer but this one. Viper, you start to bore people with your stupid and ignorant comments. If you like Mercedes-Benz go on, but don’t talk such idiotic things about BMW, especially when your stupid sentences have nothing in common with reality. The fact is that BMW beat Mercedes-Benz which is proven both with expert reviews and with sales numbers. If M5 is fat and slow than your e63 amg is much fatter and slower.

      • wazon8 says:

The best thing about Viper is this that one doesn’t even have to read his comment to know what he says.

BTW, Viper, 550i f10 is 1830kg and we can reasonably expect that M5 f10 will be a little bit lighter, since it will get partially aluminium body and carbon roof and since cars are similar. If my expetations here are correct, M5 f10 will have the very similar weight to M5 e60. It can even be better, if new m5 f10 will stay in similar relation to m5 e60 as 535i f10 stays with 540i e60. The first one is lighter and has even better performance, despite the fact that new it took much more electronics on a board. You won’t find such successful (in terms of weight) replacement in MB E-class. So better think twice, before you write another shit here, bacause if you count getting more weight as cons against car, you should start to complain on MB eighter. It’s not the first time when you make stupid statement about weight of BMW cars. You said similar thing about 135 tii, where you claimed that it won’t go faster than 5.0 to 60mph, because it’s fat, whereas regular version of this car goes faster to 60mph and your statement referred to version with mass cut down. Just think.

  10. :p says:

Fuel Ratings should be 14-15 City- 20-22 Highway which is realy great for a near 600hp vehicle. Expect high 3s with Launch control

  11. ///M-POWER says:

hello, im supposed very more performed for this M5 180mph is no fast for 580hp with V8 or not, 4.4s it’s a supposition for me 4.2s it’s good. you understand i’m french i’m no sure you understand me!!

  12. Babken says:

    My friends,
First, L1ndja, don’t worry about the fact that BMW don’t use 600hp. Remember that BMW can give its competitors an advantage of 30hp, but still be faster. So I’m sure that the upcoming M5 will be the fastest and best-handling car in its segment.
Second, I’m sure that 0-100km/h figure of 4.4 seconds is rather preliminary. I expect a real world figure of about 4 seconds.

  13. ///M-POWER says:

besides, it is really superb a propusion which does better than monsters in 4 driving wheels, c’ is made in BMW …….

  14. ///M-POWER says:

Best Brand Most Wanted A.K.A. BMW

  15. ///M-POWER says:

    in France bmw under by its performances of 0 has 60 mph (0 have 100 km/h on our premises) for x6m 4.7s ok is estimated too much, for 760i 4.7s ok for you, m5 and m6 4.6 and 4.7s, for m3 v8 4.8s and 4.6s 135i 5.2s, 5.5s for 335i and 4.8s for z4 S drive 35is 335d 6.2s …….. on your premise c’ is similar? in Europe m3 E36 3.2.321HP 5.5s of 0 has 100km/h or 0 have 60 mp/h for you

  16. bmwm6 says:

bmw always rounds up in there measurments sometimes by a lot

    X5m/x6m 4.7 sec

    actually its 4 seconds flat

  17. John says:

Doesn’t the current M5 top out at 207mph…….188 seems weak?

  18. :p says:

Wait until the numbers come out of Car and driver and Motor Trend, it will be faster

  19. kcsnayud says:

I hope the new m5 tops out at more than 220mph, so it can beat the crap outta lamborghini. And remove the stinking limiter so we can enjoy 200mph in a comfortable sedan. As for the rs6… I think audi is gonna reduce the power of the rs6 cos thats what they did for the s4…….

    • Bryce says:

Beat the crap outta lambo? Maybe they’ll have similar power numbers, but they aren’t in the same segment. However, there has been talk of a BMW supercar, and I do think this engine would be pretty sick in a new M1!

  20. Doug says:

They’re very nice renderings, but unfortunately it’s just stuff pasted onto the new 5 from other pictures. The air dam is wrong for the design and the side outlets are… uninteresteing.

  21. bmwm5fan says:

    i want this baby with a v10

  22. Chris Dodsworth says:

In my opinion the E39 was the peak for the BMW M5. I was disappointed with the looks of the E60 however i can’t deny the extreme top end of 204 mph once the limiter had been removed. The F10 seems to be another disappointment as 188 mph is less than the last one and it looks worse than the E60.

BMW need to stop worrying about fuel economy and saving the world and get back to making the ultimate driving machines (E39) like they did 10 years ago!

  23. Frank says:

the new M5 looks very similar to the current M3 but with 5 doors. Im looking forward to this coming out because the standard 5 series is a beautiful drive.

  24. delvy says:

I DONT things this tecnologie with turbo its for the m5 ,, i like the monster v10 with no help …

  25. Pinedaf37 says:

just waiting to come out got my bmw contract ready!!!!
