Rumor of the day goes something like this: BMW plans to unveil an ActiveHybrid Concept of the new BMW 5 Series. The place chosen for this unexpected revealing? The Geneva Auto Show that that begins in 2010 and where BMW plans to showcase several other……”surprises”, as people close to BMW would like to name them.

While the 1 Series Coupe ActiveE is set to debut in Detroit next month, the rumormill tells us to keep our eyes on the Swiss auto show.

So what’s the fuss about the ActiveHybrid 5 Concept? Well, for one, it will be the first hybrid based on the 5 Series, the same as the 7 Hybrid was for the flagship. But here is where it gets interesting. It will drop the large, powerful V8 engine seen in the ActiveHybrid X6 and ActiveHybrid 7, and it will be powered by a six cylinder engine outputting 218 horsepower coupled with 40 ponies coming from an electric motor.

Not the actual concept. Feature here is the new 5 Series Sedan

It will be featured in the same Bluewater metallic, now specific to the hybrid concepts and will showcases several aerodynamic elements: lower ride height, more sculptured skirts  and aerodynamically enhanced wheel covers aimed at lowering drag.

The production version of the ActiveHybrid 5 is scheduled, rumored we would say at this point, to debut in late 2010.

We’re not placing all of our bets on this, but if it happens, you heard it here first.

People are too quick to judge until they see a BMW in person. That is when you can appreciate the design and shadow detail that gives each car its character.

Much easier to judge with a blunt approach rather than using an objective eye.

I like the idea of a 6-cylinder hybrid in the 5 series. I wouldn’t buy a 7-series hybrid because I don’t want such a big car, but if BMW’s going to offer a 5-series hybrid then I’m definitely going to have to look into it.

No, banning someone who makes us laugh and its the clown of this site is not good.
Besides, having someone that has diferent tastes/points of view is always good cause then leads up to a good exchange of arguments.
Having said that, I dont know why comments derailed of the topic of this post.
It isn`t about exterior design opinions, its about the new 5 series hybrid.
Looking forward for more data about it.
Finally an engine that makes more sense instead of the huge V8.
