I can see how this will become a love it or hate it affair. I agree with Travelgeek - it is an evolution - the brand took too much risk with the e60 and now this is a reinstatement of refinement. The Volvo nose with those small kidney grille is definately not attractive. As for the tail lights, I don't like it either, I cannot see how other fans can find it a master piece there. It resembles too much of the current LCI E90, which is not a good design to me. Interior is beautiful though except when in black! The design is not refined! The to be retired 5 looks still fresh and modern, like no other competition. The former 7 never made it to be a good looking car. I see more and more how important the CS concept was for the latest generation of 7 - 5 and soon 3. It was a great looking concept car, so that´s a good thing. Lets see how it will look like in reality, normally BM´s look better on the road then in pictures. Its a beautiful car, its more an evolution and less a revolution, less risk also.. I see more and more how important the CS concept was for the latest generation of 7 – 5 and soon 3. It was a great looking concept car, so that´s a good thing.

The new model seems to be a refinement of the traits BMW wants to stress right now....the large grille- ala the 7-er, the re-styled coupe-like roofline from the 3-series. It's as if they’re gathering what they think is emblematic of current BMW design and folding it into one car. The tail light treatment is really stunning. What I think we’ll see going forward is an amalgamation of design in the 3-5-7 series under van Hooydonk....slowly mixing in the new rather than the unique segments of individuality in each series that defined the Bangle years. It’s a very impressive design….but it’s also an indication of where BMW is insofar as beginning to define the post-Bangle era.
