With days before its official unveiling in Munich on November 23rd, a new and most likely last spy video of the new 2011 BMW 5 Series has showed up on our radar. The fellows journalists at Auto Motor und Sport spotted the new 5 Series during several testing sessions on the roads of Munich.

The video shows different 5 Series variants and exterior colors: 550i, 535i and Sophisto Gray, Amethyst or Alpine White. What strikes us the most about this video compilation is the professional method in which it was shoot, a sign that the launch is imminent and the car is out in the open.

As we mentioned, the new 2011 BMW 5 Series will launch next Monday and our German publication, BimmerToday.de, will be there to report live. As always, stay tuned for a complete coverage of this new model.

Look at the camo’ed E61 at 1:24. Just the bonnet and upper sides covered, perhaps a hybrid mule?

  2. Not a hybrid, just a Servicemobile: http://www.bmw.de/de/de/owners/service/_shared/img/mobility_services.jpg

And this is not a spy video. It’s straight PR: different colours, ideally placed cameras, same roads/corners, nice driving scenes like accelleration etc…

i like the look of the car a million times better than the current 5, and that is starting to worry me, what if the new 5 is very very plain looking? I think BMW shouldn’t be doing a plain looking 5, but something that would blow the socks of people when they look at it.

Well we haven’t seen the tail of the car yet so it could still surprise us, but the lines of the car look pretty traditional. The headlights will also go a long way in defining this car as exciting or boring. So far, it looks like BMW is playing it safe. I won’t judge it until I see it in person because I thought the new 7 looked too traditional until I saw it in person and was impressed with it when I finally saw one. But so far, this new 5 doesn’t seem like it’s going to be a head-turner. BMW always seems to amaze though, so i’m sure the car will turn out beautiful.
