It's funny to see all the bench mark racers going on about their peak horsepower. Lets see how it performs on the track against other similar cars, and then bash it when it doesn't beat some half a million dollar super car.

But while were bench mark racing, let's throw in the Z06.

i bet the gts would be a really good car on and off the track. But, do you really think that saloon would outperform all the supercars you are mentioning (430 Scuderia, GT3 (2010), R8 V10) on a race track? Hell, that thing doesnt even come with carbon ceramic brakes.

About the engine, didnt you see how the LP560-4, and the audi engine you are saying kicked the butt of GT-R (and 430 Scuderia) in many youtube videos (drag and track)?

if you are saying that the 4.4 v8 is all that awesome, why does the 4.3 liter 430 produce as much as 510hp? and the 5.2 liter engine, (produced by Audi, as you said) produce 560 hp in the Gallardo? while the track tuned bmw 4.4 can only get 450..

Im not saying its a bad car.. I think its hot (M3 GTS).. But just reacting to your bold and biased statements - (e.g. since Gallardo’s engine is actually engine made by Audi’s enginers, don’t you think?).

When I said performance, I refer to track performance for which this GTS is made and it turns out that it cleraly has the same performance as F430 for the half of its price! Cars such as GTS are not for producing as many horsepowers as possible, they are all about track performance. If 100.000 euro means nothing to you, that ok, buy F430.

About R8
Do you really assess Gallardo's engine higher than M3's? The last one took a lot of awards, whereas the first one not so much. Isn't Gallardo's engine the same one as applied in RS6 C6? BTW, it's really weak argument for prefering R8 since Gallardo's engine is actually engine made by Audi's enginers, don't you think?

About GT3
The proper rival for GTS is GT3 RS which cost around 31.000 euro more than GTS. If you take GT3, you will choose car with different characteristics and with worse track performance. If you don't care about track performance at all, GTS is not adressed to you, neighter F430 Scuderia, nor GT3 RS.

"But do you still think that BMW priced their car too high and that you would choose f430 scuderia or R8 V10 over m3 gts? Same (f430) or worse (R8) performance for higher price."

510hp > 450hp
525hp > 450hp

Clearly NOT the same performance. Yes it's cheaper than the Ferrari, but it's only a BMW..
Ferrari > BMW

About the R8 V10
Gallardo LP560 engine > M3 4.5 engine

"If BMW decided to sell their car in US, it would have a GT3 price. Is it such bad price?"
A: Porsche > BMW

Yes the M3 GTS is a good saloon based sports car. If they price it right, why not.

Ok, guys, we all know that in Europe cars are much more expensive and taking European prices M3 GTS is not so expensive when you take performance it offers into the consideration. Here you have comparisions:
BMW M3 GTS 115.000euro
Porsche 911 GT3 - 117.000euro
Porsche 911 GT RS - 146.000euro
Ferrari F430 Scuderia - 206.000euro
Audi R8 V10 - 143.000euro
which shows that it belongs to cheaper cars with such a performance. Of course, not so cheap as Nissan GT-R (85.000 euro) and if price was really decidive, taking GT-R would be the most reasonable thing.

But do you still think that BMW priced their car too high and that you would choose f430 scuderia or R8 V10 over m3 gts? Same (f430) or worse (R8) performance for higher price. If BMW decided to sell their car in US, it would have a GT3 price. Is it such bad price?

It's perfection this thing especially in that colour.

It's going to be rarer than a V10 R8 and it will cost more, but would I want one over an R8? It's a toughie.

I know they're not strictly in direct competition but I just get the feeling this is a make-do until BMW eventually build the M1 Homage / Vision Efficient Dynamics.

FerrariFan,

I don't doubt that for 170k USD the F430 is a better choice, unfortunately, the euro base price of an F430 is CONSIDERABLY higher than 115k euros. You can't convert Euros to dollars than compare the price to that of US cars.

I don't think any wing will look that great on the M3, but regardless it does what it was designed to do, provide downforce. I understand that many people, for the price, would consider a GT3, but BMW has made something special here so give them a break. I feel that too many people are dissing this car when it practically answers many convictions for a light weight, NA, BMW. Sure you can spend much less and strip and add bolt ons to a stock M3, but have fun trying to tune the suspension to the same levels as professional engineers testing on the 'ring. Believe me I am a huge cynic, but I am willing to bet that the reviews in the coming months will melt away most of the disrespect that I have seen in forums. Let it settle for a bit, then come up with a logical rebuttal. M///
