What a crock. Upon observation, driving many miles per day per occupation, it has been noted, like now, in southern california, I do see this brand of auto in the emergency lane more than any other brand of vehicle on the road.Why all the fuss. I have owned, not leased (as you all tend to do) the brand mentioned. The whole line is garbage. It is like comparing an Omega watch to a Rolex. The Omega is a far superior timepiece to a Rolex. Made better with an older straight, proven means (technology). No games. It is what you call a 'Working Tool'. As with the claims of BMW, and their dependability? A no go. All hype. This has been proven thhough federal and independent testing, and experience driving the vehicle. When looking back, my Toyota 4 runner has endured more than BMW Motors could ever imagined. Things always look good on paper with German engineering. But in the field, it is always (guaranteed) differient. It is my background. Too bad for Bavarian Motor Works. Especially when the majority of their cars are built in the United States. Vehicles 'Made in Japan' are the choice for educated people that do not need to worry about status. My Land Cruiser is a good example. Number #1, dependable. Not flashy in the least. 'Japanese Stealth'. So, if I had to dole out 60 large, It would be theToyota. I apologize to the fact that this letter does not render to the car at hand. So what.

@Kyle

Where's the rant? Yes, this is an article about cars which compares it with other 'green' cars. A fuel efficient and low emission car which is part of BMW's 'efficient dynamics' range. Yet somehow I can't discuss fuel efficiency or co2 emissions in response to another commenter disregarding the worth of 'some little car'? Why is that?

We do need more compacts here in the USA. BMWUSA, bring the hatch here again. It's also the American perceptions of a small car that might " in the eyes of the public" tarnish the image of the German car. Quite sad, actually.

Oh you know, co2 emissions, global warming - all that boring stuff you ignore but which has led to billions of dollars of damage to your country and huge loss of life. What's funny is the ingrained attitude by the majority of the American populous to drive around in huge trucks. One reason why the polluting US has lost the respect of the rest of the world over the last 20 years..

"We might not be lucky to get the BMW 1 Series hatchback in the U.S., but this doesn’t stop us from bringing you car reviews around the world."

Hey don't forget that many of your readers aren't in the states. Me I'm in Gran Canaria where we have available pretty much the entire range of BMW's. Keep the reviews coming. :)
