Has it occured to anyone why the M5 had "XFR" in its registration number? Though I still think the Jag won't be able to beat ths CTSV.

BTW, did anyone notice that the CTS-V had a 2' tenth jump on the BMW? (maybe 3', hard to tell without the right softwear). This was a totally juvenile test without accurate timing. The CTS-V probably still would have edged out the BMW in a straight line, but not by nearly the same margin.

I drove Cadillacs back in their hey day... but not until recently has the Caddy come back... good for GM... it's about time! OK... that said... I am an avid BMW fan and driver. At present I am just finishing up a 2 year lease on my M coupe and it has been a real GAS... so to speak! What a GREAT machine! My new BMW was just finished yesterday in Germany and I am anxiously awaiting it's arrival.

The new line of M cars coming from BMW will most certainly out run the latest from Cadillac. At least the horse power will be equal... which will give a much better comparison! Besides all that... BMW has never been just about being the fastest. It's about being the best all around sports car! The next comparison should be about not only straight line acceleration but cornering as well. Let's get these two cars on a track with professional drivers running head to head! Then we will know the real story. So... unitl then... BMW is The Ultimate Driving Machine!

The E60 is old, it's run it's production span and is being discontinued in December. 4 years is a very long time to improve upon a benchmark, and a comprehensive test would probably still show the M5 as the benchmark. As the CTS-V was just released into production very recently, a more fair comparison will be against the new M5.

By the way, I don't mean "wrinkly skin - grandma" old or "moldy bread" old, rather the M5 ages gracefully and gets better with age as with fine wine or cheese.

BMW M5 is the Dream Car of all times. CTS-V has an advantage of 49hp, 168lb-ft of additional torque and 1.2litre of additional displacement, but it's just marginally faster (and only at speeds under 140mph). And for all of that Cadillac engineers needed a full 4 years. I can imagine what will happen when the next generation M5 comes to the ring. CTS-V will be turned to ashes.
Bravo, BMW. Bravo for making such wonderful cars. Bravo for being the most prestigious brand in the world. BRAVO FOR BEING THE BEST!

I'm not really sure what the point of this video was/is. American muscle generally favours straight line acceleration and speed.

Isn't it the point of a sports saloon (or cars in general) to also go around corners?
