I think this will happen. Its been rumored for a long time that McLaren has been looking for a way out of its ties with Mercedes as, in recent years, the relationship between the two manufacturers has become strained. Especially after the failure of the SLR to really capture attention from performance junkies.

That said, look at the earth-shattering experience that came from the previous McLaren-BMW project. Makes me wonder - how can they do that with the upcoming McLaren MP4/12C is supposed to be powered by a turbocharged Mercedes V8?

That's a really nice article; they don't skimp on the engineering. An interesting quote from autocar, that the world would never see the likes again; top gear just asserted the same thing about the veyron, 15 years later.

Did McLaren make money on the F1, or are they losing $2m per car like VW/bugatti?

could happen, with all these rumors about brawn as the new sliver arrows for 2010, BUT the one thing that is strange about it and makes me doubt it is - that Mercedes owns 40% or more of McLaren, this is to big of a share to easily buy back for Ron Dennis and makes me think that things will stay the way they are...
