BMW introduced at the Frankfurt Auto Show a limited edition of the popular BMW M6 model. The M6 Competition Edition featured a new exterior color: Frozen Grey Metallic mate finish.
This Individual Color is based on Space Grey Metallic. A special matte clear coat (FF95-0550) makes for the matte finish.
We’ve seen some live photos of this color at the Frankfurt Auto Show just two weeks ago, but today we return with a new set of photos, this time of a BMW M3 Coupe as seen at a BMW dealership in Germany.
The color looks great on the M6, but seeing on the M3 Coupe as well just makes it stand out even more. In the past several months we’ve seen plenty aftermarket solutions of the matte finish, but it’s great to have it available as an Individual Option. Price? Unknown yet, but we’re looking into it.

thats an M3…
Yes, I was looking at some new M6 photos and got carried away. I just sent an email to find out more about the pricing on this color and if it’s available for the US market as well.
You meant M3.
The matte finish gives a totally new character to the BMW convex and concave curves..
It’s like a slightly more shiner matte finish. Probably a result of the metallic – I love the idea as it does look like a car that’s been out in the cold over night.
From a design point of view you can see the values and strength of shade/shadow versus light on the surfaces. One can almost understand the form of the vehicle better without the distraction of shiny/glossy surfaces (as what David said). I wrote more about it at http://bit.ly/1ZPNXN
SICK COLOUR.
This color should be on every car, not just BWM. Love it.
Option I mean.
outside is hot!!!
inside.. not so much
My neighbor has a car the exact same color, oh wait a minute…
He calls his color PRIMER.
+1 on the “primer” by the way haha!
anyway.. i dont know how it would look, but it would be interesting to see them use “matte” (instead of glossy) carbon-fiber for this specific color.
Holy shit…
Hmm… what would matte red look like? A gummy bear?

This color looks amazing. I’m truly in love with the matte color paint schemes these days. I’m in the market for a new M3 and was wondering if the factory could do any matte color you wanted and what would be the extra cost.
