Frankfurt Preview: BMW Vision EfficientDynamics Concept

In the eve of the Frankfurt Auto Show, BMW hosted a preview of the upcoming BMW Vision EfficientDynamics Concept. BMW’s CEO, Dr. Norbert Reithofer and BMW’s head of development, Dr. Klaus Draeger were present at the event and spoke about BMW’s future plans.

“The car needs to evolve through innovation,” said Reithofer . “We have the engine more efficient and make the total of vehicle technology more optimally. In addition, Hybrid is also for us a temporary solution. And especially for large metropolitan areas, a car is needed for electric base. We will continue our research work which hydrogen regard.”

Once again, BMW has reassured everyone of their plans in the electric vehicles field and to read between the lines, Project i is moving forward and will play an important role in BMWs future.

    It looks fantastic in photos. Figures are also impressive environmentalists. As for handling, hope it won’t be affected.

    Nice pics!!

    Horatiu, a few Q’s for you since you get to see it up close:
    – does it have a trunk?
    – how do the windows open?
    – the kidney grilles have a segmented appearance, is there a reason for that?
    – the windshield design looks like it’s designed to let the kidney inlet air escape. Is there a radiator there?

      Hey man. The segmented appearance are because of the Active Aerodynamics. When the car is using the ICE (internal combustion engine) the kidney grilles open to allow air into the intakes. When it runs in electric mode the grilles close and light up in blue.

        I was aware they were doing that, but I figured the vents were louvered all together, like venetian blinds. I can’t figure out how they operate or move from the pics.

        So, if the engine is in the rear, why is there an intake in the front? Do the radiator hoses run to the front of the car?
